우수리스크 한인 디아스포라들의 초국경적 만남과 위계화된 디아스포라

국문 초록

이글은 연해주의 우수리스크를 중심으로 이 지역이 동북아시아 지역의 초국경적 이동의 주체로서의 한인 디아스포라들을 흡인하는 요인들과 더불어 이들의 초국경적인 만남을 살펴본 글이다. 북·중·러 접경도시인 우수리스크는 중앙아시아에서 귀환 이주를 감행한 고려인과 사할린 동포들, 그리고 중국의 조선족, 북한의 노동자들, 남한의 기업과 NGO 및 종교단체에 속한 한국인 등 다양한 한인디아스포라들이 진출해 있는 지역이다. 우수리스크에 거주하는 여러 범주의 한인 디아스포라들은 다양한 장소에서 서로 얽힌 삶을 살아가고 있다. 이들의 초국경적인 만남의 장소들은 크게 경제활동공간과 사회활동 공간으로 구분된다. 대표적인 경제활동 공간은 중국시장과 건설노동 현장인데, 중국시장은 고려인과 조선족의 상인들의 만남의 장소이며, 건설현장은 고려인과 북한노동자들의 만남의 현장이다. 사회활동 공간은 문화공간인 <고려인 문화센터>와 종교 공간인 교회들, NGO현장인 <로지나 서당>과 <동북아평화연대>의 농장과 생활협동조합이다. <고려인 문화센터>는 북한인, 남한인, 고려인의 만남의 현장이며, <로지나 서당>은 고려인과 한국인의 만남의 장소이다. <동북아평화연대>의 농장과 생활협동조합에서는 남한사람들과 고려인들의 만남이 이루어지고 있다. 우수리스크 내의 이러한 중첩적인 만남의 장소들에서 필자는 2014년 10월, 2015년 2월, 2015년 10월 세 차례에 걸쳐 인터뷰를 진행했으며, 국내에서 2차례에 걸쳐 보충 인터뷰를 진행했다. 이러한 초국경적인 만남의 현장에서 진행한 구술인터뷰를 통해 알 수 있었던 것은 북한인, 남한인, 고려인, 조선족 디아스포라 사이에 다양한 형태의 협력관계와 더불어, 경제적, 문화적인 요인으로 인한 위계화가 나타나고 있다는 점이다. 그런데 경제적으로 월등한 조선족에게, 고려인들이 문화적 우월감으로 위계를 드러내기도 한다는 점이 흥미로웠다. 이는 한인 디아스포라 간의 위계화가 반드시 경제적인 요건과 일치하는 것은 아니라는 것을 보여주는 것이었다. 이처럼 동일한 에스닉 그룹임에도 불구하고 국적에 따른 문화적 차이와 자본에 따른 위계화라는 부정적인 측면도 있지만, 초국경적 만남을 통해, 특히 초국경적인 가족 형성을 통해 국민국가의 경계에 매이지 않는 새로운 세대가 등장하고 있는 점도 확인할 수 있었다. 현재 동북아시아에서 초국경적 이동과 흐름이 원활하기만 한 것은 아니지만, 많은 역경에도 불구하고 한인 디아스포라는 동북아시아 공동의 공간의 매우 중요한 행위자(actor)이다.

영문 초록

This article discusses the factors that attract Korean diasporas, a major actor of cross-border movement in northeast Asia, to Ussuriysk of Maritime Province in Russia. The article also looks at the cross-border encounters of diasporas that occur in the region. As a city on the border line of North Korea, China and Russia, Ussuriysk is home to different types of Korean diaspora: Koryo-saram(Russian Korean) repatriated from central Asia, Sakhalin Koreans, Chosunjok(Chinese Korean) from China, workers from North Korea, and Korean businessmen, NGOs, religious groups from South Korea, are some examples. Lives of such diverse Korean diaspora in Ussuriysk become interconnected at certain places as they come across each other. The places these cross-border encounters happen can be largely categorized as economic and social sites. For economic sites, Chinese markets and construction sites are major examples. Social sites include places of cultural, religious and non-governmental activities. , churches, and , farms of are some examples. It is at these places that Koryo-saram, North Koreans, South Koreans and Chosunjok meet each other. Three separate interviews were carried out in October 2014, February and October 2015 at these meeting places. Two additional interviews were conducted back in South Korea. Through these interviews, it was found that something aside from a cooperative relationship existed among North Korean, South Korean, Koryo-saram, and Chosunjok diasporas. There was a sense of hierarchy due to economic and cultural reasons. An interesting fact was that though Chosunjoks are by far more superior economically, Koryo-saram seemed to be at a higher rank with their rich cultural background. This shows that hierarchy in Korean diasporas does not necessarily go by economic factors. It is unfortunate that the cross-border encounters of diasporas have created a sense of economic hierarchy as well as a cultural gap within the same ethnic group. However, thanks to those encounters and especially those that developed into cross-border families, a new generation is now emerging. A generation that goes beyond nation-state level. It is true that current movements and flows happening in northeast Asia face many challenges, but despite various obstacles Korean diasporas are a very important actor in the coordinated region of northeast Asia.
