국문 초록

현대미술의 형식 변화와 장르의 결합으로 인해 다양한 혼성적 시도에 의한 표현들이 나타나고 있다. 다양한 장르에서 조형적 미에 대한 추구를 벗어나 표현의 의미와 과정 그리고 개념을 중요시하고 있고, 관객과 작가의 관계는 소통과 교감을 만들어 나가는 새로운 관계로 발전되고 있다. 미술적 표현과 더불어 연극적 요소를 적극 활용하며 행위자의 직접적인 행동이 작품의 표현요소로 도입되는 퍼포먼스 또한 이러한 미술의 확장 속에 발생되고 확장된 하나의 장르로 구분할 수 있다. 매체간의 혼성 그리고 시간과 공간의 개념을 도입한 혼합예술로 등장한 퍼포먼스는 관객과 작가의 새로운 관계와 담론들을 만들어내며 다양한 실험적 시도들을 이어가고 있다. 현대 도예의 표현들도 현대미술의 개념과 과정을 중시하는 흐름과 맞물려 이전의 정해진 범위를 벗어나 다양한 시도들을 해 나가고 있다. 도자 오브제 또는 조각품의 시각적 표현들과 도자 매체인 흙이 갖는 재료적 특성을 이용하는 것과 더불어 퍼포먼스의 요소를 수용한 복합적 표현 양상이 진행되며 장르간의 경계를 허물어 가고 있는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 도자 매체이자 원초적 특성을 가진 흙, 그리고 도자 오브제를 표현수단으로 삼는 퍼포먼스의 유형과 특성을 분류하고 분석한다. 이를 위해 2장에서는 퍼포먼스의 개념과 특성에 대하여 포괄적으로 살펴본다. 3장에서는 다양한 퍼포먼스 중 흙이라는 도자매체를 활용한 작품들을 재료의 표현특성에 따라 분류하고 작가들의 작품전개 양상을 세 가지 유형으로 구분하여 분석한다. 이로서 개념적 예술표현의 도구로서, 그리고 퍼포먼스 안에서 행위자의 행동에 의미를 만들어가는 매개물로서 도자매체인 흙이 갖는 의미와 가능성에 대하여 결론으로 제시한다. 더불어 도자예술의 낯선 표현 양상인 도자퍼포먼스의 진행방향과 미래에 대해 예측하고자 한다.

영문 초록

As types of modern art change and its genres are combined, various expressions are created in mixed form. Therefore, modern art is developing to one in which more importance rests on the meaning, process, and concept of expression, and the relationship between audience and artists shifts toward building communication and communion in a variety of genres, escaping from the pursuit for formative beauty. Likewise, performance, in which actor s direct action is introduced as expression element of an artwork by actively employing theatrical elements as well as artistic expressions, can also be considered a genre that was created and expanded from fine art. Performance, which was born as a blended art that mixes media and introduces the concept of time and space, forms a new relationship and discourse between audience and artists, and continue making experimental attempts. As the expressions of the contemporary ceramic art are interlaced with the trend of regarding the concept and process of the modern fine art as important, it also jumps over its defined scope and makes a variety of attempts. As compound expression embracing the elements of performance progresses and the visual expressions of ceramic objects or sculptures and the characteristics of clay (material), which is the main ceramic medium are used as well, the boundary of the two genres is collapsing now. The present study is aimed to analyze the types and characteristics of performance using clay, which is ceramic medium and of original properties, and ceramic object as means of expression. To attain the objective, the concept and characteristics of performance are comprehensively examined in Chapter 2. In Chapter 3, the artworks using clay as ceramic medium among various performance are classified by expressional characteristic and examined together with the artworks of artists. By doing so, the significance and possibility that clay has as means of conceptual expression and as midium for making actor s action meaningful inside performance can be examined. In addition, this study intents to forecast the direction to move and future of ceramic performance, which is a new expression of ceramic art.
