Currently, we are living in information oriented, pluralistic, multi cultural world. People with multi culture and races in one nation respect the value, life style, faith and diversity of other groups and individuals especially, the various voices produced by various media are forming the visual culture which contains social phenomenon and concepts. What is inseparable from children is various media. Particularly TV, film, Computer, advertisements are always connected to them. Understanding modern design is the foundation of being socialized to the world by strengthening the power to understand world and to recognize the value of culture. This kind of process can be accomplished with interactive communication among different cultures. Understanding our own traditional culture in order to communicate with other culture is one of different method of expressing visual culture of design education. Today, design is not only the selling point of product but the connection of one culture to another as it present the image of nation’s product and people can get influence from the product they buy. Therefore, culture oriented design development is essential for culture diffusion and the importance of design is getting bigger. Product that is based on the country s own traditional culture is the way to become competitive and this kind of developing new design which adapt country’s own traditional culture into design is necessary. Importance of design should be deeply recognized as national issue and adapted to design education policy. This study starts from the necessity then represent competitive Korean culture to global world in order to utilize it in design art education by introducing the improved method of utilizing traditional culture in current art education. it will be fruitful if the figures with each subjects are well exercised that it produce great art work or design as nation’s cultural figures that have been used in our live are expected to be synthetically utilized in all of current design field. Birthday invitation card class was conducted to have students understand the meaning and genre (kind) of own cultural figure, not only for the beauty of form but also for the spirituality that is in deep inside. It was used as not just simple tool of invitation but means of expressing students as Korean. As a result, students were satisfied with the sufficient time for study and most of the students showed the interest toward the traditional figure and amazed that it could be seen in ordinary life. In the time of presentation, students were able to think of true meaning of traditional figures and express the various characters of their own, while they could communicate with their mates about their own art work in the appreciation time. During this process, students could mutually understand each other’s thought and showed respect to the others. Therefore, apart from understanding traditional figure, they could have time of communication as well. It was opportunity for students that they could study our traditional figure and apply it in modern design art work so that they could sense our own artistic originality and have national pride. They could know that usages of figure is not limited on art but could be expanded to industry as it was attempt of presenting distinctive spirituality by placing beauty of art spirit of our nation into ordinary tools. Various visual and audio media from environment surrounding human being contains many different meaning and they will influence on the changing future of our children. In this circumstance, children are required to be able to make right design which is responsibility of education. Expressing one self, knowing the land and culture they grow with is the way to know the world. Moreover, it is good chance to know the beauty of traditional figure and spirits that we could have pride on our arts and culture.
