필기집 소재 정몽주 일화의 존재 양상과 그 의미

국문 초록

본고는 정몽주(鄭夢周)라는 격변기의 인물을 중심으로 역사서에 기록된 양상과 필기집에 기록된 양상의 비교를 통해 역사에서 문학으로 전승된 인물의 기록 양상을 살펴보고자 하는 의도에서 작성된 것이다. 고려사 열전조에 들어있는 정몽주의 전(傳)은 전조에 충성을 다한 ‘충신(忠臣)’이면서도 현조의 입장에서 봤을 때는 왕조개창의 걸림돌인 ‘난신(亂臣)’의 이미지 가 중첩된 면이 공존한다. 때문에 열전에 실리게 되기까지의 과정이 그다지 평탄하지가 않았다. 즉, 충신과 난신의 이중적 면모가 입전의도에 모두 반영되어 기술된 형태를 띄고 있다. 하지만 선초 필기의 경우 고려사(高麗史)의 열전과는 다른 양상이 나타난다. 조선전기 필기집 가운데 정몽주 관련 일화가 수록된 문헌은 성현(成俔, 1439-1504)의 용재총화(慵齋叢話), 김안로(金安老, 1481-1537)의 용 천담적기(龍泉談寂記), 이정형(李廷馨, 1549-1607)의 동각잡기(東閣雜記), 이덕형(李德馨, 1561-1613)의 송도기이(松都記異) 등이 있다. 용재총화에 수록된 정몽주 이야기는 선초 필기집 텍스트가 ‘일화(逸話)’를 수렴하여 구성하는 방식의 일단을 잘 보여주고 있는 것으로 평가된다. 동시에 구연전승에 의해 수렴된 ‘일화’가 서사적 성격이 강화되는 형태로 전변이 진행되는 점 또한 보여준다는 점에서 그 의미가 크다. 용천담적기에 수록된 정몽주 이야기는 기록의 문제 보다 ‘기이’에 초점을 맞추고 있는 것이 핵심이라 하겠다. 필기류가 가진 ‘기록성’의 측면 보다는 ‘서사성’의 측면에 좀 더 경사된 것을 의미하는데, ‘기이’라는 ‘환상성’이 적극적으로 수렴된 형태로 구성되고 있다. 동각잡기는 ‘사실’의 기록전승 수준에 그치고 있으며, 구연전승을 통한 편찬자의 의도적 개입을 통해 ‘서사’적 지향을 드러내는 방향으로 진행되지 않고 있다. 이점은 앞선 용재총화나 용천담적기와 비교할 때 동각잡기의 한계를 보여주는 것이기도 하다. 선초 필기가 지닌 특성으로 다양성과 자유분방함을 주목해 본다면 동각잡기는 ‘야사’로의 지향을 보여주고 있는 반면, 용재총화나 용천담적기는 ‘역사’적 기록을 바탕으로 구연전승과의 교직을 통해 ‘서사’로의 지향을 추구하고 있는 것으로 볼 수 있다. ‘정몽주’ 일화의 전변양상은 이를 대표적으로 잘 보여주고 있으며, 이를 통해 선초 필기 소재 ‘일화’의 특징적 국면을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper investigates on the descriptive aspects of Jung Mong Ju, the character in the era of rapid change by comparison between the historical record and the pilgi collections. In the Ko-Rye History biography, the Jeon of Jung-Mong-Ju appears as loyal servant to the present dynasty but at the same time it gives highly rebellious impressions of establish a country’s obstacle to the present dynasty. Because of this, the publication process was not handy at all. In other words, the both aspects of loyal and rebellious characteristics are reflected by intention of biography. However, Seon-Cho pilgi shows different forms from that of Ko-Rye History Among the early days of the Joseon Dynasty pilgi, Jung-Mong-Ju related stories are found in multiple sourse like Yong-Jae-Chong-Wha by Sung-Hyun(1439-1504), Yong-Chun-Dam-Juk-Ki by Kim-Ahn-Roh (1481- 1537), Dong-Kak-Jab-Ki by Lee-Jung-Hyung(1549-1607) and Song- Do-Ki-Ei by Lee-Duck-Hyung. Jung-Mong-Ju story in Yong-Jae-Chong-Wha is highly evaluated as it shows the Sun-Cho pilgi’s composition method in details. At the same time, it means even more because it shows stories included by narrate transmission gets stronger descriptive characteristics. The story of Jung-Mong-Ju in Yong-Cheon-Dam-Juk-Kifocuses on ‘oddness’ than it does on the problem of record. It means that the aspects of ‘recordability’ that pilgi has are more incline than ‘narrativity’ is. The ‘fantasy’ as ‘oddness’ is actively included in the composition. Dong-Kak-Jab-Ki does is not able to overcome the limit of record transmission of ‘reality’ and it does not take the path to show ‘narrativity’ through narrate transmission by author’s intervention. This point show the limitation of Dong-Kak-Jab-Ki compared to Yong-Jae-Chong-Wha and Yong-Cheon-Dam-Juk-Ki mentioned previously. Dong-Kak-Jab-Ki appears to pursue the sense of ‘unofficial history’ if we pay close attention to the diversity and freewheel. On the other hand, Yong-Jae-Chong-Wha and Yong-Cheon-Dam-Juk-Ki seems to pursue the ‘narrativity’ through mixture with narrate transmission based on ‘historical’ records. shape of change of ‘Jung-Mong-Ju’ stories shows it well and the characteristic aspects of Sun-Cho pilgi ‘stories’ could be ascertained through it.
