국문 초록

재일코리안(한국인·조선인)의 탄생은 조선인이 일본의 피식민지배자였을 시절부터 시작되었다. 일본으로의 이주는 일본의 식민통치 이전에도 존재하였지만, ‘재일’이라는 용어는 식민지 통치 중, 그 결과로 일본으로 이주한 이들과 그 자손들을 일컫는다. 현재 재일코리안은 최대 이민7세대까지 이르렀다. 본 논문에서 필자는 재일 소설가 이회성의 장편소설 ꡔ백년동안의 나그네ꡕ를 통하여, 1세대와 2세대 재일코리안의 민족적·문화적 정체성의 다양함을 면밀히 해석하고자 한다. 2장에서 필자는 재일 코리안의 탄생에 영향을 준 역사적 시점과 상황을 간략하게 열거한다. 물론 일본, 미국 그리고 둘로 나뉜 한국의 정치적·사회적 요인들이 그러한 역사를 만드는 데 역할을 하였다. 3장에서는 소설을 면밀히 해석함으로써 사할린 한인들 사이에 존재했 던 격차들에 대해서 다룬다. 이러한 격차들은 1945년 일본의 패전 이전에도 존재하였지만, 해방과 더불어 한인들에게 주어진 수많은 곤경들을 마주하면서 더욱 극대화되었다. 4장에서는 동화의 정도 차이를 결정한 요인들이 분석된다. 소설 속에서는 언어적 능숙도와 문화적인시민성이 해방 후 격차를 만드는 주요 원인들이다. 결론적으로 재일코리안들이 일상생활에 적용할 수 있는 재일코리안으로서의 어떤 긍정적인 정체성이라도 가질 수 있는 길을 찾는 것이 그들을 집합적 또는 그룹으로 분석하는 것보다 더 중요하다는 것에 대해서 논한다.

영문 초록

Zainichi Koreans’ birth dates back to the days when Koreans were Japan’s colonial subjects. Migration to Japan happened even before Japan’s colonialism but the term ‘Zainichi’ strictly refers to the Koreans in Japan who migrated to Japan during the colonial years and their descendants. Now, Zainichi Koreans expand up to, as far as, the seventh generation. In this article, I would like to read closely the diverse ethnic and cultural identification/identities of the first and the second generation Koreans in Japan through a novel Baeknyeon donganui nageune (百年の旅人たち (Hyakunenno tabibitotachi) ; Travelers of a Hundred Years), written by Lee Hoeseong, a Zainichi writer. In Chapter 2, I will briefly delineate historical junctures that gave birth to Zainichi Koreans at large. Of course, political and social factors of Japan, the US, and two Koreas play their roles to make that history. Chapter 3 deals with disparities among Koreans in Sakhalin through the close reading of the novel. Disparities among them existed before Japan’s defeat in 1945; disparities became greater as they face numerous predicaments that were brought to them with the liberation. In Chapter 4, the factors that decide different degrees of assimilation is analyzed. In the novel, language fluency and cultural citizenship are factors that mainly create disparities after the liberation. In conclusion, I will argue that it is more important to find a way for Zainichi Koreans to have positive identiti/es as any kind of Zainichi Koreans that can be applied to their quotidian existence than to analyze them into collectives or groups.
