영문 초록

The World Wide Web (the WWW) distributes resources and information, making it the tool of choice for those interested in delivering instruction using the distributed learning model. Indeed, nowadays, we can easily find examples of faculty delivering their instruction on the WWW. Use of the internet for GIS education ranges from basic information delivery to the development of sophisticated virtual classroom on the Web. We can find the two models on either end of the spectrum - the course supplement model, which utilizes the internet`s most basic features, the virtual classroom model, where courses and entire degree programs are delivered in whole or in part on the net. This research has attempted to evaluate the online GIS courses and developed new model of online-GIS education. In order to achieve this purpose, this paper adopts following methods. To construct theoretical model of online education, this study on GIS education conducted reviews of literatures. And seven online GIS courses were selected and evaluated. Two of them belong to the "virtual classroom" model of GIS education and five of them are "course supplement" model of GIS education. However, most of them don`t have asychronous group communication tools such as Usenet news/discussion groups which allow faculty to post assignments, students to submit homework and groups to work together on project. Lack of multimedia textbooks is another problem. Thereforce, in this study new model of internet-based GIS education was developed. This model incoporate such components as interactive multimedia textbooks, asynchronous group communications and synchronous group discussions.
