국문 초록

철학적 인간학자들은 인간존재 전체를 가장 포괄적으로 그리고 가장 정확하게 표현하는 단어로 인격 개념을 든다. 그리하여 많은 철학적 인간학자들이 ‘인간존재는 곧 인격 존재’라는 명제에 동의하며, 이러한 그들의 사유는 인격주의로 연결된다. 그런데 인격주의는 하나의 확고한 철학 체계이기보다는 철학적 접근, 관점, 강조이다. 대부분의 인격주의자들이 동의하는 인격주의의 중심 관념은 “인간 인격의 절대적 가치에 대한 확언”이다. 인격주의라는 단어가 다소 불명료하고 무정형의 특성을 갖고 있음에도 불구하고, 이 단어는 과거에도 그리고 현재에도 널리 사용되고 있다. 특히 최근에 인격주의에 대한 관심을 불러일으킨 보이티와는 특별히 급속도로 발전하고 있는 생명과학에 대해, 생명과학 연구는 건전한 인간학, 즉 인간 인격의 존엄성에 근거한 인간학의 토대 위에 세워져야 한다고 촉구한다. 오늘날 철학자, 신학자, 사회 윤리학자, 경제학자 등이 인격주의에 매력을 느끼고, 다양한 방법으로 그리고 다양한 목적을 위해 이 전통에 따르고 있다. 인격주의에 대한 관심이 이렇게 증가된 상황에서 현대 철학적 인간학의 주요 흐름으로서 인격주의의 위상을 명료히 하기 위해 인격주의의 역사적 전개 과정을 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 개별 인격주의자들에 대한 상세한 연구들은 있지만, 인격주의의 전체 틀 안에서 인격주의자들 간의 상호 관계와 인격주의의 국가별 전개 과정을 살핀 연구는 드물다. 한 편의 논문으로 인격주의의 전체 윤곽을 상세히 그리기는 힘들지만, 주요 인격주의자들의 사상적 관계를 살피는 것은 매우 중요하다. 이를 위해 이 글에서는 독일, 프랑스, 폴란드, 미국에서의 인격주의 전개 양상과 최근의 인격주의의 동향에 대해 개괄적으로 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

When to give a comprehensive name to human being, a name expressing his entire reality Ganzheit in a precise and unequivocal way, most of philosophical anthropologists say that it is a “person”. Personalism is not a philosophical rigid system, but a philosophical approach, perspective, or emphasis. all personalists might agree that the core concept of personalism is an “affirmation of the absolute value of the human person.” The indistinct and amorphous nature of the term ‘personalism’ notwithstanding, personalism enjoys its storied past, and it has continued to be invoked today. Recently it has experienced something of a resurgence, drawing the academic and popular attention evoked by the prominent figure, Karol Wojtyla, Pope John Paul . He asserted that “your work must be based on an sound anthropo Ⅱ - logical foundation which rests on the very dignity of the human person.” Today, personalism continues to attract philosophers, theologians, social ethicists, and economists who follow its tradition but who do so in varying ways which lead to disparate ends. This increased interest in personalism demands that some efforts should be made to understand personalism’s historical development in an attempt to confirm its contribution to academic and popular discourse. While there have been a lot of attempts to study specifically on a particular personalist, there have been a little efforts to study the mutual relation between personalists as a whole and investigate its history and precedents, and also to draw together the various national strands of the movement into a coherent tale of personal and philosophical interactions. It is difficult to explore these things in one mere article. But it is also important to give a draw of the historical development of personalism and the interactions of personalists. So this essay is reviewed the historical development of personalism and the interactions of personalists in Germany, France, Poland, and America.
