국문 초록

코헬렛은 온 힘을 쏟아 하늘 아래서 일어나는 일을 연구하였다. 그의 주된 관심은 인간의 노고가 사람에게 무슨 보람이 있는지를 확인하는 것이다(코헬 1,3). 그는 자신이 이룩한 모든 업적과 그 업적을 위해 쏟은 모든 노고를 성찰하면서 모든 것이 무상하고 바람을 붙잡는 일이라고 선언한다. 코헬렛의 실존론적 인간 이해는 다소 부정적인 것으로 여겨진다. 그러나 그는 “혼자보다는 둘이 나으니 자신들의 노고에 대하여 좋은 보상을 받기 때문이다”(코헬 4,9)라고 단언한다. 코헬렛이 이런 형태의 삶을 추천하는 주된 동기는 무엇이었을까? 우리는 본문 분석 결과 다음과 같은 결론에 이르렀다. 곧, 코헬렛은 자신의 노고를 다른 사람과 나눌 수 없는 불행한 인간 상황을 무상하다고 선언하지만, 서로 협력하는 삶이 더욱 바람직하며 사람에게 좋은 보람이 있다고 생각한다. 노고의 결과를 나눌 수 있는 다른 사람 없이 혼자 있다면, 노고할 필요도 없을 것이기 때문이다.

영문 초록

It is well known that Qohelet has been exerted himself to study all that happened under heaven. His primary concern is to see what man gains by his toil(Qoh 1,3). Reflecting on all that his hands had achieved and all the effort he had put into his achievement, he declares that all is vanity and chasing the wind. Actually Qohelet’s existential understanding on human beings seems to be somewhat negative. He affirms, however, “Better two than one by himself, since their work is really profitable”(Qoh 4,9). What could be the significant motive, for which Qohelet recommends this type of life style? Our textual analysis reaches this conclusion: while Qohelet declares the ridiculous human situation in which one can not share his burden of toil with others is vanity, the cooperation between human beings is thought to be a more recommendable one and to give them a good reward, for there is no use toiling if one has no one with whom to share the benefits.
