국문 초록

본 연구는 제18대 대통령선거에서 나타난 한국 무당파의 투표 행태를 경험적으로 분석하는데 주요 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 ‘선호 정당’과 ‘지지 정당’이 모두 없다고 응답한 유권자를 무당파로 정의함으로써 기존 연구들보다 좁은 의미에서 엄격한 측정 방법을 사용하였다. 분석결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 무당파는 전체 유권자 중 19.7%를 차지하고 있으며, 젊은 층의 비율과 학력이 높고 인천 및 경기 지역출신이 많았다. 둘째, 한국 무당파의 이념성향의 경우 민주통합당 지지자보다는 보수 적이지만 새누리당 지지자보다는 진보적으로 중도에 가까운 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 한국 무당파의 투표율은 78.0%이며 후보 선택에 있어서는 대북지원과 재벌규제 이슈에 대한 태도, 후보자 및 정당 선호도, 성별, 연령 변수가 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 기존의 연구보다 엄밀한 방법으로 무당파를 측정한 점과 현실정치에서도 시급하고 중요한 무당파의 투표행태를 분석했다는 점에서 학술적 의의를 가진다.

영문 초록

This study examines the factors that determine Voting behavior of Korean political independent in the 18th presidential election. We applies a very strict concept of political independent who does not have both preferred and supporting party at the same time. This study provides several findings. First, the proportion of Korean political independents is 19.7% of the respondents. They are characterized by young and high education, many from Incheon and Gyeonggi-do regions. Second, their ideology is more conservative than DUP supporters, but more liberal than Saenuri party partisan voters. Third, their turnout rate is 78.0%, and their voting choice tends to be determined by the issue of north korean aid, Chaebol regulations, candidate, party, sex, and age. This paper is meaningful in a sense that it utilizes a more rigorous method to measure the concept of political independents and brings the issue of political independents into research agenda, which is also so significant in the realm of real politics.
