국문 초록

연구자는 간접 및 직접 교정지도 방법이 학생들의 단기 및 장기 언어 습득에 어떤 영향을 주는지를 알아보기 위하여 본 연구를 진행하였다. 이차언어에서 정확성의 개념은 언어, 구조, 그리고 내용 영역까지 확대되며, 총 3개 영역에 속하는 15개 항목 이 작문교정지도의 가장 중요한 초점이 되었다. 추가로 이전의 문자교정지도 연구에서 거의 주목을 받지 못했던 장르로 의견문(opinion paragraph) 또한 연구의 주된 내용으로 본 연구에서 다루기로 하겠다. 본 연구에는 63명의 대학생들이 참여하였고 177 편의 작문 표본을 단기 및 장기로분석 하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면 단기간에는 직접 교정 그룹이 간접 교정 그룹 보다 유창도가 높은 것으로 나타났고, 장기적으로 볼 때에는 세 그룹간의 정확도, 유창도, 그리고 복잡도 모두에서 차이를 보이지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 피드백 유형과 단기 및 장기라고 하는 시간요인간의 상호작용을 살펴보면, 세 그룹 간에 유창도에 있어서만 간접 교정 그룹이 직접 교정 그룹보다 시간의 경과에 따라 유창도가 증대하는 것으로 나타났다. 작문 수업의 시간적인 제약 을 고려해 볼 때, 작문 교사는 학생들이 범하는 작문 오류 전부를 주어진 시간에 모두 지도 할 수 없고 선택적일 수밖에 없으며, 이에 대해 구체적으로 무엇을 선별해서 가르쳐야 할지에 대해서 제언한다.

영문 초록

This study was investigated to explore how direct or indirect feedback affects on the students’ short and long term language acquisition. The conventional notion of accuracy is extended to organization and contents, and fifteen local student generated errors from these three domains were the focus of the investigation. In addition, opinion paragraph which has rarely received attention from previous studies was also added to the primary interest of the investigation. Sixty three, intermediate level, and EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students participated in the study, and one hundred seventy seven writing samples were analyzed between a short and long term periods. The findings of this study indicate that direct group outperforms indirect group in terms of short term period and fluency. However, when it comes to the lasting effects of accuracy, fluency, and complexity, direct, indirect, and control group show no discrepancies. Interaction effects between feedback modes and time (short and long period of time) indicate that among the measurement of accuracy, fluency, and complexity, an indirect group shows more fluency than a direct group as time lapses. Considering the fact that teaching hours are quiet limited in writing class, it is impossible for writing teachers to correct all of the students’ errors within a limited time. This study provides educational implication when a writing teacher has to make a decision on which errors they have to select to teach in class.
