A two-pronged approach is taken to explore the needs of beauty students as English learners at a four-year university. The students’ self-assessed levels of confidence and proficiency are examined along with their thoughts on the projected demand for English ability required of beauty professionals. Attention is also drawn to the students’ thoughts on various elements of the English curriculum, followed by coverage of their satisfaction with the aspects. In essence, the students’ needs are identified, based on their perspectives and perceptions on English education. The study reveals that the students are largely interested in furthering their communicative ability, especially their verbal language skills, conceivably in anticipation of encounters with foreigners in their professional capacity. The students are, however, of the opinion that they are not being adequately equipped with skills necessary for effective communication in social and work-related contexts. The state of affairs calls for the education that is closely aligned with students’ aspirations so that they will be able to successfully interact with foreigners while providing goods and services. English education tailor-made to the needs of students whose career paths lie in service industries can help raise a future workforce ready to thrive in a globally-linked society.
