국문 초록

본 논문은 정확하게 알려지지 않고 제대로 이해하기 힘든 티베트·몽골 불교에 대한 정확한 이해를 돕기위한한 과정으로 기술되었다. 티베트불교는 어떤 목적을가지고 어떻게몽골지역으로 전파되어 내려와 오늘날까지 몽골인들의 삶에 커다란 영향을 미치고 있는 것일까를 살펴보는 과정의 글이다. 샤머니즘을 자신들의 고유 신앙으로 믿고 있던 몽골 유목민들은 1570년대 이후 알탄칸(Altan Khan)에 의해 티베트 불교를 몽골고원으로 본격적으로 받아들이기 시작하면 서거대한사상적변화를경험하게된다. 티베트 불교의몽골고원전파는 사상적변화뿐만아니라 몽골인들 전체 삶의 틀을 송두리째 바꾸는 계기가 되었다. 본 논문은 티베트 불교의 몽골 전래 과정을 通時的으로 살펴보았다. 티베트·몽골 불교를 올바로 이해하기 위해 불교의 각종 명칭, 직위와 호칭 등 중요한 몇몇 불교용어들을 ‘몽골어-티베트어-한자’를 중심으로 분석하였다. 마지막으로 이를 토대로 오늘날의 몽골 불교가 기존에 알려진 것처럼몽골국민 90%가믿고 있다는 것이 사실이아님을 밝히고 2010년도 기준 15세이상 몽골거주 인구의 53%가 몽골 불교를 믿는다는 것을 확인하였다. 현대의 몽골을 올바로 이해하기 위해서 우리는 오늘날의 몽골을 구성하고 있는 다층적이고 복잡한 양상 즉, 유목생활, 몽골세계제국으로 경험했던 다양한 문화접변과 발전, 샤머니즘과 불교를 포함한 다양한 종교 그리고 정치와 역사 등 아주 복합적인 것들에 대한 이해가 반드시 필요한데 본 논문은 그러한 과정 가운데 하나의 글이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to be described as one process for helping the correct understanding about the Tibetan and Mongolian Buddhism that is difficult to be properly grasped without being exactly known. This is the writing of the process that examines with which aim and how the Tibetan Buddhism was spread to be handed to the Mongolian region and to result in having great influence upon Mongolian people' life up to now. Mongolian nomadic people, who had believed in shamanism as their unique faith, come to experience a huge ideological change while beginning to be introduced Tibetan Buddhism to the Mongolian Plateau by Altan Khan following the 1570s. The spread of Tibetan Buddhism to the Mongolian Plateau became an opportunity that completely changes the frame of the whole life in Mongolian people, as well as an ideological change. As for the development in this study, it diachronically figured out the process that the Tibetan Buddhism is introduced to Mongol, and inspected Buddhist terms such as several names, posts and titles in Buddhism centering on ‘Mongolian language-Tibetan language-Chinese character’ in order to rightly understand the Tibetan and Mongolian Buddhism. Finally based on this, it clarified that the Mongolian Buddhism of today is not true to be believed by 90% of Mongolian people as known conventionally, and confirmed that 53% of the population residing in Mongol aged over 15 as of 2011 believe in Mongolian Buddhism. To correctly understand Mongol in modern times, we need to certainly understand about the multiple and complex aspects of forming Mongol of the day, namely, about very complicated things such as nomadic life, diverse cultural assimilations and developments, which had been experienced as the Mongol world empire, diverse religions, politics and histories including shamanism and Buddhism.
