국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국 여성의 폭행 및 성폭행 범죄두려움에 영향을 미치는 요인을 밝히고 정책적 시사점을도출하기 위한것이다. 이를위해서2010년11월 약한달동안 서울지역에 거주하는 여성을 대상으로 실증조사와 분석을 실시하였다. 연구결 과, 여성이 경찰활동의 확실성을 높게 인식하는 여성일수록 폭행두려움을 적게 느끼는 것으로 나타났으며, 경찰활동의 가시성이 높을수록 폭행두려움을 더 많이 느끼는것으로 나타났다. 또한, 여성이 일상생활에서 성적괴롭힘을 많이 경험할수록 성폭행 두려움을 더 많이 느끼는 결과를 보여주었으며, 성폭행 피해경험 또한 성폭행 두려움에 통계적으로 유의하게 영향을 주었다. 특히 다른 변수를 통제했을 때, 성적괴롭힘 변인만이 성폭행두려움에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 한국 여성의 폭 행 및 성폭행 두려움 감소를 위한 제언과 이 연구의 한계를 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this research is to investigate factors of South Korean women’s fear of violent and sexual crime and draw the policy implications. The current study conducted a survey of women residing in Seoul and analyzed the collected data employing a random sampling. The findings indicated that women who perceived that the police would certainly catch offenders were less likely to have fear of violent crime than those did not and that those who perceived that the police were often seen were more likely to have fear of violent crime than those who did not. The findings, furthermore, indicated that women who have been sexually harassed were more likely to have fear of sexual crime than those who have not, and sexual victimization was also a statistically significant predictor of their fear of sexual crime. Sexual harassment was the only variable that influenced their fear of sexual crime when controlling for other variables. The policy implications to understand and ultimately to reduce South Korean women’s fear of violent and sexual crime and the limitations of the current research were discussed at the last part of this study.
