교회의 속성에 대한 개혁신학적 이해

국문 초록

칼빈의 은사중지론적 입장 이후에 개혁신학에서 은사는 사실상 신학적으로 더 이상의 발전적 논의의 대상이 아니었다고 볼 수 있다. 20세기에 등장한 오순절 및 은사주의 운동은 은사를 사실상 가시적 은사와 비가시적 은사로 양분하면서 이를 성령론과 교회론의 가장 중요한 주제 가운데 하나로 성찰될 수 있는 계기를 제공하였다. 이런 시점에서 은사에 관한 개혁신학적 논의를 발전시키기 위한 목적의 일환으로 본 논문에서는 교회의 네 가지 속성과 은사의 관계를 조망하였다. 교회의 속성을 은사의 관점에서 고찰하기 위해서 사도성, 보편성, 통일성, 거룩성의 순서를 취했다. 이 순서는 은사의 정의, 기원, 기능, 그리 고 결과라는 차원에 근거하여 주어진 것이다. 첫째, 사도성이 먼저 언급된 이유는 은사의 넓은 정의는 우선적으로 구원의 진리에 관한 것이며 사도에게 구원의 진리가 맡겨졌다는 사실에서 비롯된다. 둘째, 보편성은 은사의 기원에 관한 것으로서 사도성에 의해 정의된 은사가 궁극적으로 만유에 충만한 그리스도의 보편성에서 비롯된 것임을 강조한다. 교회에 다양한 은사가 주어진 이유는 이를 활용하여 그리스도의 충만한 분량, 즉 그의 보편성에 이르기까지 자라는 것이며 이를 통해서 교회의 보편성 또한 구체화되고 확인된다. 셋째, 통일성은 은사의 궁극적 기능에 관한 것이다. 은사의 다양성은 성도 상호간에 교제 를 더욱 원활하게 하여 교회에 덕을 세우고 교회의 하나됨을 확인하고 증대시키는 일에 사용되는 도구 또는 수단에 해당된다. 넷째, 거룩성은 교회에서 은사가 올바르게 활용되어진 결과로서 제공되고 확대된다. 은사가 올바로 활용 될 때, 교회의 하나됨이 확인되고 더욱 증대될 뿐 아니라 교회가 궁극적으로머리되시는 그리스도를 닮아가는 거룩한 교회로서의 모습을 지니게 되도록돕는다.

영문 초록

Since Calvin advocated a cessationist view regarding charismata, a Reformed discussion on it had been generally stagnating. The rise of Pentecostalism and the charismatic movement in the last century, however, has provided an occasion to reconsider the role of charismata in pneumatology as well as in ecclesiology. In this article, an attention has been given to the relationship between attributes of church and charismata from the Reformed perspective. These attributes are presented in the order of apostolicity,catholicity, unity, and holiness. First, apostolicity is closely related to the definition of charismata. In its basic definition, charismata cannot be imagined apart from the gift of salvation provided to the church in the form of gospel. Since Jesus had commissioned his apostles to spread the gospel and defend its truth regarding salvation, apostolicity cannot be defined apart from charismata in its relation to salvation. Secondly, catholicity is related to the origin of charismata. Out of his fullness, the risen Christ, provides them in their diversity to the church so that there might be no lack in her growth toward the fullness of Christ. In this way, charismata are not only originated from the fullness of Christ, but they enhance the catholicity. Thirdly, unity is related to the function of charismata. Their proper function can be explained in terms of an edification of the church. It is necessary to have charismata in order to maintain and promote the unity in the church. Fourthly, holiness is closely related to the result of charismata. A proper exercise of charismata not only produces unity but also holiness as the church grows towards Christ in his fullness. In other words, holiness, understood in terms of task assigned to the church, can be confirmed and increased as the result of the proper exercise of charismata.
