헤르만 바빙크가 받은 교육과정과 『개혁교의학』의 저술 준비 과정

국문 초록

이 논문을 통해 우리는 헤르만 바빙크의 공식적인 교육과정과 주저『개혁교의학』의 집필 준비과정을 분석해 보았다. 두 번째 섹션에서 우리는 하셀만 인스티튜트, 인문고등학교, 그리고 레이든대학교에서 바빙크가 어떠한 교육을 받았는지를 살펴보면서, 그가 참으로 다양한 학문적 훈련을 쌓았음을 확인하게 된다. 그와 같은 과정을 통해서 그는 탁월한 신학자로 준비되어진 것이다. 초기부터 그는 3개의 고전어(즉, 히브리어, 라틴어 그리고 헬라어)뿐만 아니라 몇 개의 서양어들(즉, 화란어, 독일어, 프랑스어, 그리고 영어)에 능숙하도록 훈련받았을 보게 된다. 또한 레이든대학교에서- 신학적 경향성이 극단적으로 자유주의적이었음에도 불구하고- 당대 기준으로 볼 때 최고 수준의 신학교육을 받았다는 것을 확인하게 된다. 그리고 그곳에서 그는 종교학, 셈어, 철학 등도공부했다. 그러한 과정들을 통하여 그는 교의학을 가르치는 일과 교의학교과서를 집필하기에 적합한 기량을 충분히 기르게 되었다는 것을 알 수가 있다. 세 번째 섹션에서 우리는 그의 주저『개혁교의학』집필을 위해 어떠한 준비과정을 거치게 되었는지를 논구해 보았다. 그는 자신의 처음이자 마지막 목회지인 프라너꺼르(1891-1892)에서 신학과 철학 공부를 계속했고, 깜뻔신학교 교 수 재직 기간(1893-1902) 동안에는 교의학과 윤리학 등의 강의를 위해 최선의노력을 기울였음을 확인하게 되었다. 바빙크는 1896-1901년 어간에 그의 주저를 처음 간행했고, 암스테르담으로 옮긴 후인 1906-1911년 어간에 제2판 수정증보판을 간행했다. 바빙크의 학습과정과 준비과정 등을 논구함을 통하여, 우리는 그가 주어진학습의 코스웍을 성공적으로 이수했을 뿐만 아니라, 표준적인 교의학 교본을 쓸 수 있는 역량을 갖추기 위해서 남들 보다 훨씬 더 노력을 했음을 확인하게되었다. 따라서 우리는 그를 우리의 신학적 교육과 신학 교본을 저술하는 일에롤 모델로 삼을 필요가 있다고 생각한다.

영문 초록

In this essay, I examined the educational courses, which Herman Bavinck had procured, and the preparatory processes for writing his "Reformed Dogmatics." In the second section, I pursued his courses from Hasselman- Institute through the Latin School at Zwolle and Leiden University, in which Bavinck had studied. Through these processes, he equipped himself as an excellent theologian. In his early life, he was trained to be proficient in some classical languages (i.e. Hebrew, Latin, Greek) and some Western languages(i.e. Dutch, German, French, English). He also received theological education of the highest level in the standard of his times in Leiden University, even though the theological tendency was extremely liberal. There he studied the Science of Religion, Semitics, and Philosophy. In addition, he was well equipped as a teacher of dogmatic theology and as a writer of different textbooks on dogmatics.In the third section, I examined the preparatory processes for writing his Magnus opus, “Reformed Dogmatics.” After completing his secular education,he continued to study theology and philosophy in his first and last pastorate in Franeker. In addition, he did his best to prepare his lectures on dogmatics and ethics in the period of professorship in Kampen Theological School. Herman Bavinck first published his “Reformed Dogmatics” during 1895-1901 in Kampen. After moving to Amsterdam, he published its second revised edition between 1906 and 1911. Through this scrutiny on Bavinck’s educational and preparatory processes, I conclude that he had procured the given courses successfully and put a greater effort than others to be an excellent scholar, who could write down the magisterial Dogmatics. So I think that he is fit to be our role model in theological studies and in writing theological textbooks.
