蔡邕 『筆論』에 나타난 ‘書者 散也’의 書藝美學的 考察

국문 초록

동양예술에서 작가의 마음을 풀어헤치고 자유자재로 창작할 수 있는 중요한 단어는 ‘散’이라고 할 수 있다. 蔡邕은 서예창작에 있어서 ‘散’이라는 단어를 매우 중시하 고 있다. 동양예술에서 특히 서예는 고전을 중시하는 임모전통으로부터 새로운 변화 를 추구한다. 이처럼 서예는 문자를 통하여 작가의 道德氣․書卷氣․藝術氣 등을 드러내는 예술이며 작가의 수양과 학문을 氣로 표현하는 종합예술이다. 이런 사유로 예 술로서의 서예는 작가의 자유로운 의지를 드러내는 ‘書者 散也’로 표현한다. 채옹은 漢代서론을 실용적인 서예에서 한 차원 높은 예술로 승화하고 집대성하여 魏晉書論 의 기반이 되었다. ‘散’의 문자적 字形을 살펴보았다. 또한 사전적 의미는 흩뜨러뜨리다, 흩어지다, 풀어놓다 등의 많은 뜻으로 사용했으나 이 논문에서 ‘散’의 의미는 흩뜨러뜨리다는 뜻이 가장 적절하다. 채옹은 ‘서자 산야’에서 ’산‘의 진정한 의미를 허정한 마음으로 법도에 구속됨이 없이 자유로운 표현이라 하였다. 이처럼 ‘解衣般礡的 ‘散’의 創作心態는 화공이 옷을 벗고 두 다리를 뻗은 자유로운 자세를 취하는 것이 도의 체득이면서 자연을 따른다는 사상으로 ‘散’과 관련이 있다. 이러한 창작심태는 텅 빈 마음으로 고요히 바라보는 허정지심의 경지야말로 예술가가 창작할 때에 마땅히 지녀야 할 마음상태는 ‘散’과 관련이 있다. 또한 無爲自然的 ‘散’의 運筆技巧는 창작에 임할 때 법도에 매이지 않으면서 心手 相應의 경지로 들어가 자연과 합한 상태를 말한다. 이러한 기교의 최고 경지는 기교 를 잊는 것이다. 이는 서예창작에 있어서 일필휘지하듯 물 흐르는 것처럼 오랜 숙련을 통하여 도에 나아간 ‘依乎天理’의 기법은 모두 ‘散’과 관련이 있다. 이처럼 채옹에 의하여 제기된 ‘書者 散也’의 예술정신은 창작시의 자유로운 마음상태와 운필에 대한 기교운용의 기본이 되었다.

영문 초록

One important word in oriental art to untie an artist's mind and help create freely is ‘to scatter( 散 ).’ Cài Yōng places great emphasis on the word of ‘to scatter( 散 )’ in calligraphy creation. In oriental art, particularly calligraphy pursues a new change from the tradition of transmission in making copies which laying emphasis on classics. In this way, calligraphy is the art that shows an artist's moral spirit, expressive spirit, art spirit and etc. through letters, and is the synthetic art that expresses an artist's self-discipline and learning through spirit. For this reason, calligraphy as art is expressed as ‘Calligraphy as scattering( 書者 散也 )’ which reveals an artist's liberal will. Cài Yōng sublimated the theories on calligraphy during Han from practical calligraphy to a higher level of art and compiled them, and set the foundation for the theories of calligraphy during Cao Wei and Jin dynasty. ‘ 散 ’ has been used the form of consider with many dictionary meanings, such as scattering, dispersing, loosing and so on, but in this thesis, the most appropriate meaning of ‘ 散 ’ is to scatter. In ‘Calligraphy as scattering’, Cài Yōng said that the true meaning of ’to scatter‘ is the free expression without thinking about anything or one's mind being moved by an object, and without being restrained by customs. For this reason, the mental condition of creating mind of a naked body and stretched legs( 解衣般礡 ) of ‘scattering’ is the idea that when a painter takes off one's clothes and has a free posture by stretching two legs, he or she can learn the truth through experiences and follow the nature, which is related to ‘scattering.' This mental condition of creation means that the stage of looking at things calmly with an empty and silent mind is the attitude an artist should have when creating works, and is related to ‘scattering.’ In addition, the techniques to wield the brush of ‘scattering’ of the nature as it is( 無爲自然 ) refer to the condition that when an artist creates, he or she doesn't restricted customs but reaches the realm of the brush going as one thinks( 心手相應 ) and joins the nature. The best stage of this technique is to forget the technique. All the ‘depending on the universal law( 依乎天理 )’ techniques of calligraphy creation to approach the truth through a long-term training as if water flows and writing with one stroke of a brush are related to 'scattering.’ As mentioned above, the art spirit of 'Calligraphy as scattering' raised by Cài Yōng has become the foundation for the free mind of poetry writing and the techniques of brush strokes.
