근대 전북서단의 흐름에 관한 고찰

국문 초록

전북은 예향으로 불리우며, 많은 서화가들을 배출한 지역이다. 특히 구한말과 개화기, 그리고 일제강점기의 서화인들은 나라를 잃은 설움과 아픔을 서화에 의탁하여 수많은 작품을 남겨 그들의 민족정신을 현대로 이어지게 하였다. 이러한 문화적인 소양은 면면히 시대를 거치면서 발전하여 시기별, 지역별, 서숙별로 전북서단을 형 성하여 서맥(書脈)으로 이어졌으며, 현대서예의 한 축을 담당하는 역할을 하였다. 본 연구는 원광대 소장 박순호교수 기증본의 고찰을 통해 근대 전북서단의 흐름을 파악하고자 하여 일부 자료의 국한된 점에 있어서는 약간의 오류가 있으리라 생각 한다. 그러나 이 소장본들의 다양한 서화작품은 박순호 교수 개인이 평생을 바쳐 전 반적인 흐름을 파악하기위해 계획적으로 콜레터한 작품들이여서 그 흐름을 파악하는 자료로는 손색이 없을 것이다. 본 기증 서예작품은 전북서단의 중추적인 역할을 했던 서예가와 각 지역에서 활동하고 있는 서예가들의 작품이 고르게 분포되어 있으며, 여러 작품 형식 중에서 병풍류가 유난히 많은 점은 괄목한 성과라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 작품들은 한국서예사에서 근대와 현대의 서예를 잇는 서예가들의 대표적 인 작품들로, 구한말과 일제강점기, 그리고 해방후의 유행서풍을 살필 수 있는 중요한 자료가 되고 있으며, 박순호 교수가 평생 관심을 갖고 연구하였던 한글 필사본과 더불어 한문서예의 필적들을 판각본이나 탁본이 아닌 친필 묵서로 모았다는 사실은 우리 문화에 대한 깊은 애정과 관심에서 나온 결과물이며, 그 문화재적인 가치는 매우 높다고 할 수 있다.
