크리놀린의 조형성을 응용한 장신구디자인 연구

국문 초록

장신구와 의복은 인체의 아름다움을 드러나게 해주고, 시대가 느끼는 미적 기준에 도달하게끔 만들어 준다. 인간은 서로 의식하고 주목받길 원하며 존경받고 싶어 하는 욕구를 자신의 신체를 치장함으로서 들어내며 이는 장신구와 복식을 통해 표현하여 왔다고 할 수 있다. 때로는 신체적 고통이나 불편을 감수하면서까지 과장된 장신구나 의복을 착용하였으며 이를 통해 자신의 신분이나 정체성을 나타냄과 동시에 인간의 욕망을 표출하고 과시하여왔다. 그 중 복식은 인체의 형태를 보완하여 또 다른 아름다움을 재창조하는 역할을 한다고 볼 수 있다. 스커트를 부풀리기 위해 입는 속옷의 일종인 '크리놀린(Crinoline)'은 19세기에 유행했던 양식으로 약 1850년부터 1870년까지 20년 동안의 짧은 기간이지만 산업기술의 발전으로 인해 굉장히 확산적으로 유행되어진 복식이다. 혼자서는 거동도 할 수 없을 정도로 불편함을 주는 옷이었지만 귀족 뿐 아니라 모든 계층이 입었던 옷이다. 이는 여성이 얼마나 아름답고 싶은가에 대한 열망을 단편적으로 보여주는 부분이다. 본 연구자는 과장된 외형적 선의 실루엣으로 자신을 과시하고픈 욕망의 대표적 표현수단으로 크리놀린이라는 주제를 선정하였다. 그리고 크리놀린이 가진 조형성을 도출하기 위하여 역사적 내용을 살펴보고 시대적 흐름에 따라 변화한 이들의 형태들을 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 과장, 과시하고픈 욕망의 수단인 이 주제가 가지고 있는 선의 교차반복, 원의 방사배열, 면의 분할 등의 조형성에 대해서 분석하고, 이런 조형요소들을 응용하여 현대 장신구에서는 어떻게 활용하고 표현할 수 있는지에 대해 디자인을 제시하였다. 이 연구가 단순히 복식의 외형적인 실루엣만을 디자인 요소로 이용한 장신구 디자인이 아니라 복식을 통해 자신의 욕망을 드러내고자 했던 인간의 심리를 이해하고 조형적인 요소를 분석하여 장신구를 제작함에 있어 보다 깊이 있는 디자인이 제시할 수 있는 연구의 발단이 되었으면 하는 바람이다.

영문 초록

Jewellery and clothes make us expose beauty of human body and reach aesthetic criteria felt by the times. Humans are conscious of each other, want to receive attention, expose their desire of receiving attention by decorating their body and express this through accessories and clothes. Sometimes humans wear exaggerated accessories or clothes, enduring physical pain or inconvenience, and express their identity or position through this while showing off their desire. Among them, clothes can be regarded to play a role of recreating another beauty by complementing the shape of human body. Crinoline is a type of underwear to spread skirts and was in at the 19th century. While it was a short period of 20 years from around 1850 to 1870, this costume was extremely popular due to development of industrial technology. While this costume was too uncomfortable for the wearer to move easily by herself, it was enjoyed by all classes including aristocrat. It fragmentarily shows desire of women for beauty. I selected "Crinoline' as the main form of expression of desire to show off with exaggerated silhouette of appearance. I examined the historical contents and their forms of changes according to flow of the times, in order to draw the formativeness of Crinoline. Through this, I analyzed the formativeness such as split of face, radial arrangement of circle, cross repetition of line that this subject has, the means of desire to show off and exaggeration, and presented the design regarding how to utilize and express such formative element in modern accessories. I hope this study may serve as the starting point for study that can present more in-depth design in production of jewellery by understanding psychology of humans to express our desire through costume, not just as jewellery design, using only external silhouette of costume, and analyzing formative elements.
