국문 초록

본 연구는 독거노인의 주관적 건강상태와 상실경험이 자살생각에 미치는 영향의 직․간접 효과를 검증하고 이들의 관계에서 우울의 매개효과를 확인하는 것이며, 또한 변수들의 구조적 관계에서 사회활동참여가 조절효과를 나타내는지 알아보고, 이를 바탕으로 독거노인의 자살예방 방안을 모색하기 위한 것이다. 연구목적을 위해 서울시 A구 2개동에 거주하는 독거노인들을 대상으로 전수조사를 통해 확보된 원자료를 재수집하여, 796명을 최종 분석에 사용하여 구조방정식모형 분석과 다집단분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 독거노인의 주관적 건강상태는 자살생각에 직접적인 영향을 미치지는 않았지만 우울을 매개로 간접적인 영향을 미치고 있었다. 둘째, 상실경험은 자살생각에 직접적인 영향을 미치며, 우울을 매개로 간접적인 영향도 미치고 있었다. 셋째, 우울은 자살생각에 정적으로 영향을 미쳤다. 마지막으로 사회활동참여의 조절효과를 검증하기 위해 다집단분석을 실시한 결과, 상실경험과 우울이 자살생각에 미치는 영향은 사회활동참여수준에 따라 다르게 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 토대로 독거노인의 자살예방을 위한 이론적, 실천적 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The objective of this study is to investigate the intervening effects of depression and level of social participation with respect to the suicidal tendency of the elderly living alone. We examine the data collected from 796 elderly participants living alone in Seoul. The survey was conducted by Mental Health Center and the statistical methods utilized were structural equation modeling and multi-group analysis. In summary, first, the self-diagnosis of elderly living alone had a non-existing effect on suicidal tendencies but depression factors had an indirect effect. Second, experiencing loss had a direct effect on suicidal tendencies. Third, depression had a direct relationship with suicidal tendencies. Finally, the effect that experiencing loss and depression had on the elderly living alone differed based on the level of social activities the elderly participated in. Based on such findings, this study examines and discusses theoretical and practical methods of preventing such suicidal tendencies.
