화육법(畵六法)에 기초한 전통미술 수업 사례

국문 초록

동양에서 회화품평의 기준이 되어 온 화육법(畵六法)은 남조(南朝)의 사혁(謝赫)이 처음 제시하였다. 화육법의 가장 중요한 의의는 회화에 있어 형사(形似)를 넘어선 신사(神似) 표현, 즉 대상 본질표현의 중요성을 확고히 정립했다는 점이다. 이와 같은 맥락에서 우리 전통미술은 회화의 형식보다 예술가의 정신성을 강조해왔다. 그러나 지금까지 우리 교육현장의 전통미술교육은 삼묵법(三墨法), 발묵법(潑墨法), 선긋기, 수묵채색화와 같은 표현기법을 중심으로 수행되어왔다. 이 연구는 이에 대한 보완적 의미로서, 화육법 이론을 통해 전통미술의 정신성에 주목하도록 하는 수업을 다루었다. 수행된 수업사례는 화육법 중 응물상형(應物像形), 수류부채(隨類賦彩), 경영위치(經營位置)에 한정하였으며, 전통적 표현기법 대신 타이포그라피, 포토샵, 설치미술, 패션디자인, 색료추출, 패러디 등의 다양한 표현방법을 학습활동에 적용하였다. 이러한 화육법에 기초한 전통미술 수업은 학생들에게 대상의 외적인 형태나 색채, 구도 그대로를 표현하는 창작의 일차적 단계를 넘어 대상의 본질을 찾아나가는 과정의 중요성을 일깨워주었다. 나아가, 전통미술 이론이 학생들의 현재의 삶과 창작에 역동적 동기로 작용할 하나의 가능성을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The six principles of traditional East Asian painting, which have been the standard for painting criticism, were first presented by Xie He of the Southern Qi Dynasty(479-502AD) during the Southern and Northern Dynasties period. The greatest significance of the six principles lies in the firm establishment of the view that in painting, the spiritual aspect is more important than formal resemblance. It is, in this context, that traditional painting, which was focused on spirituality, can be understood. This study is meaningful as a complement to methodologies of classes on traditional art education, such as the three-ink technique and the spread-ink technique, as well as expressive techniques such as drawing lines and ink and color painting. The class cases in this study were conducted and examined in terms of "depiction of the characteristics of subjects," "choosing the proper color according to the subjects," "management of placement in composition." Instead of traditional techniques, more modern forms such as typography, photo shop, installation, fashion design and dye stuff extraction were applied to the classes. In this way, students could approach the concept of the six principles of traditional East Asian painting through the creative process. As a result, of the classes, the students could comprehend that the spiritual aspect is more important than formal resemblance, and apply this realization to the their own works. Also, art classes based on the six principles of traditional East Asian painting enlighten students on the importance of process in searching for the essence of things.
