국문 초록

본 논문은 조선후기 우도론의 형성 배경 및 우정론의 발현 양상을 살펴보고 우정론이 갖는 의의를 탐색해보고자 한 것이다. 조선 중기까지 붕우 문제는 주로 신분이나 처지가 엇비슷한 사람들 혹은 형제간의 붕우 등 가족주의에 바탕한 개인 우애 차원에서 다루어진다. 그러나 선조대 붕당정치의 형성 이후 생긴 집단적 동류의식, 속임과 아첨이 득실거리는 마장지술 속에서 뜻있는 지식인들은 타락한 현실 앞에서 참된 붕우도를 회복하고자 한다. 그리하여 붕우 문제는 개인적, 윤리 문제를 넘어 문학적, 역사적 문제로 확산된다. 18세기 우도론의 양상을 살펴보면 첫째 붕우를 혈연 이상의 존재로 바라보는 非氣兄弟 의식이 강했다. 둘째, 지위 고하를 마다않고 교유를 맺는 交不擇人 태도를 지녔다. 셋째, 우정에 대해 자의식의 과잉으로까지 읽힐 정도의 독특한 정서를 드러냈다. 18세기 지식인들이 붕우를 목숨과도 같이 소중하게 인식한 배경에는 우도를 통해 타락한 세대를 일으켜 세우려는 절박한 현실 인식이 자리한다. 이 시기 우정 담론이 인물고하를 가리지 않고 존재했으며 나아가 여성에게까지 확산되었다는 점에서 평등 사상을 지향하는 근대적 정신과 상통한다 하겠다.

영문 초록

This thesis is to study the background of establishing the discussion about friendship, the aspects of the theory of friendship how to be revealed and developed, and the meaning of that during the second half year of Chosun period. The matter of friendship had been considered to be mainly personal till the middle of Chosun period, such as among the people with the same social status or the same situation and among family members. However, in the middle of the conditions full of the corrective sense of the same social class after the clique politics since the ancestor period, full of the machination, trickery and flattery, the intellectual tried to revive the doctrines of true friendship. So the matter of friendship was to be considered as a literary and historical matter rather than as a personal and ethical matter. The main aspects of the theory of friendship doctrines in the 18th century as follows; firstly, the friendship to be considered more than blood relationship! Secondly, to be kept companionship regardless of the social status. Thirdly, to be kept unique emotion realized as a excess of self-consciousness. The background that the intellectual of the 18th century considered the friendship very preciously like life itself was their realization of waking up the corrupted generation through the truth of friendship. The discussion of that times about friendship is congenial to the modern thought of equality in respect of that it was among all kinds of people regardless of social status, even among women.
