비틀어진 인물 형상을 통한 인식의 전환과 변신의 의미 확장 가능성

국문 초록

본 글은 고전 서사문학에 등장하고 있는 인물들에 대한 관심에서 출발하였다. 특히 정상적상식적인 수준의 몸의 형상을 지니지 못한 등장인물이, 자신은 물론 사회적으로 인정받고 수용되는 과정에 초점을 두고 그 의미를 살피는 데에 초점을 두었다고 볼 수 있다. 고전 서사문학에서는 등장인물의 왜곡되고 비틀어진 형상으로 인한 태생적 불리함을 벗어날 수 있는 방법의 하나로 ‘변신 모티프’가 원용되기도 하였다. 신이하고 환상적인 방법에 의한 변신은 변신 주체로 하여금 단번에 자기 존재성의 변화를 경험하게 하며 세계에 대해 긍정적인 자세로 대응토록 하였기 때문이다. 하지만 본 글은 변신이 단순한 ‘몸바꾸기’ 차원을 넘어서는 의미를 내포하고 있음을 전제로 한다면, 변신의 범위는 훨씬 확장될 수 있는 가능성이 있을 것으로 보았다. 특히 문학 텍스트 내에 존재하는 변신 주체와 그 문학 텍스트 수용자가 경험하게 되는 인식의 전환 또한 변신의 기능이 확장될 수 있다는 측면에서 주의를 기울일 만하다고 여겨진다. 초현실적 사건이 매개되지 않는다 하여도 인식의 전환을 통해 인간의 삶을 변화시킬 수 있는 계기를 제공받을 수 있다면 변신의 또 다른 형태와 의미로 규정할 수 있기 때문이다. 이러한 관점에서 본 글은 인간의 존재와 인간의 삶 전반에 영향을 미치는 ‘나와 대상의 관계맺음’에 관한 의식적무의식적 활동으로 변신의 의미를 규정지었으며, 특히 등장인물에게 주어진 ‘몸’의 형상이 예상을 뒤엎는 왜곡된 상태로 나타난다고 했을 때 ‘나’와 ‘대상’ 사이의 관계맺음은 인식의 전환이라는, 일종의 정신적 심리적 변신에 의해 가능하다고 보았다. 이렇게 변신의 의미가 확장될 수 있다면 인간의 근원적 원망이라 할 수 있는 ‘변신’은 어떠한 방법으로든지 문학 속에서 구현될 수 있을 것이며, 본 글은 그러한 가능성을 <외쪽이 설화>를 중심 대상으로 하여 살펴본 것이라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This article begins at the interest in characters of narrative classic literature. It is assured that especially, characters with an abnormal and insensible form of the body are focused to identify a process of their being accepted and admitted themselves and socially, and to find the meaning of the process. In narrative classic literature, 'a metamorphosis motif' is invoked as a way of escaping characters' disadvantageous origin due to their distorted and twisted form. A Metamorphosis with a mysterious and fantastic method allows the person to experience a change in his/her being at once and to make the person cope with the world positively. However, on the assumption that this article is premised on denoting the meaning beyond a simple 'body transformation,' the researcher focuses that a metamorphosis has greater possibility of being extended. In particular, the shift of perception serves to play an important part, both for the character who undergoes a transformation in the text and the reader who receives the text. That is, if readers are provided a chance to change their life through a shift of perception, although surreal events do not serve as a medium, it can be defined another form of a metamorphosis and the meaning. From this point of view, this article defines the meaning of a metamorphosis as conscious and unconscious acts on 'relating myself with objects' influencing across the live and being of humans. Especially, when a character's form of 'the body' appears to be unexpected distorted shape, relating 'myself' and 'objects' can be occurred by the metamorphosis of 'a shift of perception.' Likewise, if the meaning of a metamorphosis is extended, 'a metamorphosis' the fundamental desire of humans, can be implemented, whatever ways, in literature. This article gauges the possibility with a tale of Oejjogi.
