대학 고전문학 교육의 현상과 전망

국문 초록

이 연구는 대학에서 이루어지는 고전문학 교육의 현실을 진단하고, 이를 해소할 수 있는 방향을 제시하기 위하여 이루어졌다. 현실을 진단하는 여러 시각 중, 고전문학을 문학으로 보아야 한다는 당위성과, 문학을 바라보는 다양한 방식의 확립에 초점을 맞추어 논의를 전개하였다. 고전문학을 문학으로 보아야 한다는 당연한 명제가 지금까지의 교육 현장에서 실종되었다는 것이 이 글에서 주장하고 있는 기본 전제이다. 그 결과 상상력의 고양이라는 문학교육의 목표도 고전문학교육에서는 기할 수 없게 되었다. 문학교육의 본질적인 내용은 현대문학에 미루고, 문학 외적인 내용으로 고전문학 교육이 이루어졌던 것이다. 따라서 일상적인 글의 독해에 있어 중요시되는 주제 중심의 접근과 함께, 독자와의 문학적 교감이라는 문학 독서의 본질을 회복해야 할 필요성이 제기된다. 비본질적 접근 현상의 연장선상에 놓여 있는 것이 고전문학 연구에 있어 작가와 작품을 둘러싼 사회 현상에 대한 연구의 편중이라고 할 수 있다. 문학 현상은 작가와 작품, 세계, 독자로 구성되어 있다. 지금까지의 문학 교육은 작가와 작품에 반영된 세계의 이해가 그 주류를 이루었다. 이는 현대문학에서도 나타나는 현상인데, 그 결과 작품에 대한 접근보다는 작품 외적인 지식을 전달하는 방식으로 문학 수업이 이루어졌던 것이다. 따라서 작품에 대한 관심과 함께 독자와의 교감에서 작품은 완성된다는 문학의 원리가 교육의 현장에서 회복되어야 하는 것이다.

영문 초록

This study is aimed for examining the present education of classical literature at the university and presenting ways to solve the problem. In many ways of examining the situation, we are focused on the view of the justifiability that classical literature should be considered as the literature itself and establishment of various ways to examine the literature. The basic concept of this study is that the undoubted essential statement -classical literature should be considered as the literature -has been missing in our education field until these days. Consequently, there is no doubt that we couldn't meet the goal to enhance imaginative power in the classical literature education field. The essential content of literature education was mostly shifted to the contemporary literature field and there has been only outward of literature education in classical literature education. Therefore, it is necessary to recover the essence of reading literature which is the consensus among readers within the approach of focusing the main subject, which is important in daily reading. In studying classical literature, it is considered as an overemphasis of studying writers and literary works. The literature is consist of a writer, literary work, the universe and reader. The literature education until now was mostly based on the understanding of the writer and the thought in literary works. It is also found in contemporary literature area, therefore the literature education was mostly for delivering outward knowledge of the literature rather than approaching the literature itself. Therefore, it is necessary to recover the fundamental principle of the literature, that is the literary work is completed with the interest of the literary work and consensus among readers.
