포스트모더니즘의 영향으로 나타난 예술 장신구의 경향

국문 초록

전통적으로 인식되고 있는 장신구의 개념이나 가치와는 구별되는 새로운 재료의 사용이나 제작 방식으로 작가의 아이디어나 개념, 사고 등을 보여주는 예술장신구는 20세기 중반부터 미국을 비롯한 유럽의 여러 나라를 중심으로 그 영역이 더욱 확장되기 시작하였다. 예술장신구는 전통적인 장신구의 기능과는 다르게 장신구의 착용의 범위를 몸 전체로 확장시키기도 하고 풍자와 은유를 사용한 과장된 표현으로 작가의 의식을 전달하기도하며 쓰다 버려진 사물이 재료로 사용되기도 한다. 또한 지난 시대의 양식이나 기법이 재해석되어 사용됨으로써 익숙함과 함께 새로움을 보여주기도 한다. 이러한 장신구의 변화는 모더니즘을 거쳐 20세기 중반부터 일어나기 시작한 예술 사조인 포스트모더니즘과 깊은 관계가 있다고 하겠다. 모더니즘을 부정하며 모더니즘 이후 등장한 포스트모더니즘은 그 형성 배경으로 20세기 중반의 급격한 사회적, 경제적, 정치적 변화와 예술, 철학 등의 새로운 모색을 들 수 있으며 그 특징은 일반적으로 탈 장르화, 패러디와 유희적 표현, 대중화, 그리고 전통의 재발견 등으로 요약할 수 있다. 이와 같은 영향으로 일부 장신구 작가들은 장신구의 영역을 벗어나는 몸 전체를 이용하는 신체 장신구, 아름다움보다는 의미전달에 목적을 두는 장신구, 새로운 가치를 보여주는 장신구, 그리고 역사를 재인식하게 해주는 등의 예술장신구를 제작하였다. 본 논문에서는 1960-80년대 활동하였던 대표적 예술장신구 작가들의 작품을 중심으로 포스트모더니즘으로부터 받은 영향에 관하여 연구하고 이를 통하여 20세기 중반에 나타나는 예술장신구의 경향에 대해 이해해 보고자하였다.

영문 초록

Art jewelry expressing idea, concept or thought of a artist through materials application or manufacturing method different from jewelry of traditionally recognition has more expanded their realm mainly in many European countries as well as America since the mid 20th century. Jewelry placed in a part of body sometimes become body ornament worn in the whole body or sometimes convey a artist's consciousness as an exaggerated expression using satire and metaphor. Used and discarded jewelries were often reused as materials of ornaments and the fashion of past times was re-interpreted so that they sometimes became media to give familiarity together with newness. Such a change has a close relationship with postmodernism arisen from the mid twentieth, and this thesis intended to study characteristics of change in art jewelry in the mid twentieth in association with postmodernism. The background behind formation of postmodernism which appeared after modernism denying the modernism is social, economical, political change as well as new attempt of art and philosophy, and the characteristics are generally summarized as overcoming genre, parody and playful expression, popularization, and rediscovery of tradition. In line with the above, going beyond the realm of existing jewelries, ornament manufactures also made body ornaments using the whole body, ones for the purpose of communication, ones showing new values, and art ornaments making us newly understand our history. This thesis researched influence given by postmodernism with focus on works of representative art jewelry artists who engaged during 1960-1980 and thus, it attempted to understand art jewelry in the twentieth century in which characteristics of art jewelry were clearly found. Taking this opportunity, it is expected for writers who now engage in their works to understand the stream of times and to cultivate artist's view and thus, they can suggest a direction of art jewelry showing feature of the times.
