요한 바오로 2세의 몸의 신학을 통해 바라본 인격적 만남

국문 초록

제2차 바티칸 공의회「사목헌장」 22항과 24항에서는 "새 아담 그리스도께서는 하느님 아버지의 신비와 그 사랑의 신비를 알려 주는 바로 그 계시 안에서 인간을 바로 인간에게 완전히 드러내 보여 주시고 인간에게 그 지고의 소명을 밝혀 주신다. 이 지고의 소명이란 인간이 자기 자신을 아낌없이 내어 주지 않으면 자신을 완전히 발견할 수 없다는 것을 드러내 준다."이라고 말한다. 복자 요한 바오로 2세는 이 소명에 대한 답을 찾기 위해 인간 사랑에 대한 숙고를 바탕으로 인격들의 만남, 무엇보다도 남자와 여자의 사이의 사랑의 연결된 무수한 경험들을 통하여 그 경험이 주는 심오한 의미를 찾아내도록 우리를 안내해준다. 복자 요한 바오로 2세는 교황에 즉위한 1년 후 선포한『수요 교리서: 남자와 여자로 인간을 창조하셨다. 인간 사랑에 관한 교리(Uomo e donna lo creò, Catechesi sull'amore umano)』를 통해 몸의 신학을 발전시킨다. 이 교리의 내용은 창세기에 나오는 창조 이야기에서 인간이 자신을 찾아나서는 과정을 통해 창조되기 이전부터 하느님께로부터 준비된 선물에 해당되는 '원경험'에 집중하게 된다. 이 원경험은 원죄와 더불어 인간의 주체성과 다른 성을 가진 인격과의 만남을 통해 발견한 정체성과 어떤 소명을 받은 존재인지를 밝혀내기 위한 근원적인 힘을 말한다. 원경험에 속하는 '원고독(la solitudine originaria)', '원일치(l'unità originaria)', '원순수ㆍ원벌거벗음(la nudità originaira)'이 뜻하는 의미를 찾아내는 과정은 우리의 몸이 왜 남성과 여성이라는 성성(sessualità, 성적 특질)을 가진 존재로 창조되었고 서로를 향한 인격적인 친교로의 부름에 응답할 수밖에 없는지를 일깨워준다. 인간은 우리 안에 내재되어 있는 원경험을 다시 찾아내는 과정을 통해서 우리가 하느님께 받은 선물이 얼마나 소중한 것이며 하느님의 모상임을 깨닫게 된다. 그러한 의미에서 원경험을 발견하고 그 선물을 바탕으로 우리에게 주어진 지고의 소명을 실현해 나가는 것은 인간에게 주어진 가장 값진 보물을 찾는 길이다. 그 보물을 찾아내는 길은 나를 도와 일생의 동반자가 될 또 다른 모상과의 만남을 통해서만 가능하며 그 인격적인 만남을 통하여 인간은 자기 자신을 제일 잘 알 수 있게 된다. 복자 요한 바오로 2세는 우리가 가진 무한하고 폭발적인 사랑의 힘을 원경험을 통해 되찾을 것을 호소한다. 우리가 고독 속에서 저 가슴 깊이 묻어두었던 '나는 누구인가'에 대한 의문을 제기하는 것을 시작으로 하느님께서 우리를 창조하신 그 순간부터 내 안에 내재되어 있는 성적 타자를 찾아나서는 강한 열망을 찾아내라고 한다. '나'라는 몸을 가진 주체가 이 세상의 여느 피조물과는 다른 권한을 받았음을 인식하며 '나'라는 존재에 국한되었던 한계에서 벗어날 준비를 갖추게 된다. 아담과 하와의 만남으로 대표되는 남자와 여자의 만남은 이 한계를 넘어서는 신비의 힘이 인격들의 친교(Communio Personarum)를 통해서 이루어짐을 알려준다. 그리고 친교의 부름에 적극적으로 임하는 남자와 여자가 겪는 부끄러움은 원래 알몸이면서도 부끄러워하지 않았던 아담과 하와처럼 상대방의 성적 가치의 착취가 아닌 진정한 자기 내줌의 초대에 응답할 수 있도록 하느님께서 주신 선물임을 기억해야 한다. 우리는 이 선물을 통하여 완전한 충만함에 도달할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Gaudium et Spes 22 says that "Christ, the final Adam, by the revelation of the mystery of the Father and His love, fully reveals man to man himself and makes his supreme calling clear." This vocation manifested that man can not fully find himself except through a sincere gift of himself See, Gaudium et Spes, 24. John Paul II invites us to find an answer to the deep meaning of the vocation of man through the interpersonal encounter, especially the love between man and woman. Thanks to the relationship between men and women we learn the importance of human experience that connects to the meaning of life. From 1979 to 1984, John Paul II, during the public audience on Wednesdays, addressed this subject. This catechesis was later published under the title, "Man and woman he created them." The main content of the original 129 Catecheses concentrates on 'the original experience' as a gift prepared by God in the creation account in Genesis. This experience reveals the identity of man with vocation of being in relationship with others especially with the opposite sex. The meaning of being sexual is to be called to personal communion with one another. In other words of John Paul II, the original experience involves 'original solitude', 'original unity' and 'original nakedness'. In fact, man acknowledge having received the gift from God and being in the image of God thanks to the original experience. In this regard, the highest vocation of man is accomplished and through this gift, man discovers his treasure. If we continue this journey of interpersonal encounter, we also come to know ourselves because the other person, created in the image of God, invites us to discover the meaning of who man is. John Paul II calls us to rediscover our enormous capacity to love forever through the original experience. In other words, if we ask ourselves the question, deep in the solitude of our heart, 'who am I ?', we will notice our strong desire to meet another sex driven object in our search for God's original intention vis‑à‑vis sexuality, from the beginning of creation. However, man recognises the power he has received from God to be that of a very different creature with a different body to all other creatures. Man cannot live alone in solitude and must get out by himself thanks to the encounter with a woman. So the encounter between Adam and Eve represents the mystery of 'Communio Personarum' between man and woman. The call to interpersonal communion between man and woman also teaches the value of sex is an invitation to give oneself without exploitation. To give oneself to another means to receive his body as a gift of God. In conclusion, only this gift will bring us to the fullness of man.
