학령기 시각중복장애학생 교육 실태 및 요구

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 시각장애 특수학교에 재학하고 있는 시각중복장애학생의 현황을 알아보고, 시각중복장애학생에 대한 교육 실태 및 요구를 조사함으로써 시각중복장애학생을 위한 체계적인 교육 지원 방안을 모색하는 데 기초 자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 전국 13개 시각장애 특수학교를 대상으로 시각장애학생 및 시각중복장애학생 현황을 조사하였고, 시각중복장애학생에 대한 교육 경험이 있는 교사 157명을 대상으로 조사를 하였다. 이 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 2014년 시각장애 특수학교에 재학 중인 시각중복장애학생의 비율은 전체 1,252명의 재학생 중 322명으로 조사되어 전체 25.7%가 분포하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 시각중복장애학생에 대한 교육 담당은 담임교사와 교과 담임교사(33.8%)가 가장 많았으며, 시각중복장애학생에 대한 학급 편성은 별도의 학급에서 전일제 수업(49.7%)을 가장 많이 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 시각중복장애학생에 대한 교육 목표는 독립생활(54.2%)과 학습 지원(40.1%)에 중점을 두고 있으며, 시각중복장애학생에 대한 교육 목표 설정 시 학생의 발달 수준(51.1%)을 최우선으로 고려하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 시각중복장애학생에 대한 교육형태는 학교 차원에서 별도의 정규학급을 편성하여 운영(42.9%)하는 것을 원하고 있으며, 시각중복장애 학생에 대한 효과적인 교육을 위한 중점 요소로 적합한 교육과정 편성(23.9%)을 가장 많이 요구하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 시각중복장애학생에 대한 효과적인 교육을 위한 교육과정 편성은 별도의 교육과정 편성(47.4%)을 요구하고 있으며, 시각중복장애학생에 대한 별도의 교육과정 편성 시 일상생활 훈련중심 내용(26.4%)과 교과와 연계한 생활 기능 중심 내용(20.7%)을 중심으로 편성할 것을 요구하는 것으로 나타났다. 아울러 교사들은 시각중복장애학생에 대한 교육과정 운영의 어려움으로 적합한 교육과정의 부재(21.7%)를 가장 많이 지적하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구 결과를 토대로 학령기 시각중복장애학생에 대한 효율적인 교육 방안에 대하여 제언하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to provide preliminary data to support providing more organized education to students with visual impairments and other disabilities. Researchers investigated the present state, educational condition, and needs of students with visual impairments and other disabilities who attend special schools for students with visual impairments. Thirteen special schools for visually impaired students in Korea were selected for the study, and 158 teachers who have experience with students with visual impairments and other disabilities were surveyed. The research findings are as follows. First, 322 of 1,252 students attending special schools for students with visual impairments in 2014 had other disabilities (25.7%). Instruction for students with visual impairments and other disabilities was delivered mostly by homeroom teachers and class-specific teachers (33.8%). Regarding class arrangements, 49.7% of students with visual impairments and other disabilities studied in separate classrooms the entire school day. In regards to educational goals, the priorities were to develop skills for independent living (54.2%) and learning (40.1%). In setting goals for students with visual impairments and other disabilities, students’ level of development (51.1%) was a primary consideration. The special schools preferred establishing separate, regular classes for students with visual impairments and other disabilities (42.9%). An appropriate curriculum (23.9%) was identified as a key to the effective education of students with visual impairments and other disabilities. Specifically, 47.4% of participants emphasized the need for a special curriculum for students with visual impairments and other disabilities focused on the skills necessary for daily living (26.4%) and daily functions in relation to learning materials (20.7%). Based on these findings, the researchers propose how to provide effective education to students with visual impairments and other disabilities.
