청각 장애인의 텔레비전 뉴스 시청과 제3자 효과 인식

국문 초록

본 연구는 청각 장애인 148명을 상대로 텔레비전 뉴스의 "제3자 효과" 측정했다. 제3자 효과는 미디어가 나 자신보다는 다른 사람, 즉 제3자에게 더 많은 영향을 미칠 것이라는 인식의 오류현상을 일컫는다. 본 연구는 가족, 같은 동네에 거주하는 비장애인, 국내 비장애인들, 또 다른 장애인 등 4개의 집단으로 타인을 분류, 사회적 거리에 따른 제3자 효과를 측정했다. 연구결과, 응답자들은 가족이나 같은 동네 거주하는 비장애인들이 자신보다 텔레비전 뉴스에 더 영향을 받는다고 믿고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 하지만 다른 장애인에 대해서는 제3자 효과가 발견되지 않았다. 이는 청각 장애인들은 같은 장애인들에게는 비교적 짧은 사회적 거리를 갖고 있음을 보여준다. 또한 TV뉴스에 대한 신뢰도는 미디어영향력, 더 나아가 3자 효과와 모두 정적인(＋) 상관관계를 보였다. 하지만 자아존중감이 높고 낮음에 따라 제3자 효과에는 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 발견되지 않았다.

영문 초록

The present study mainly examined the presumed television news effects on those who have hearing disabilities or the deaf. Specifically, the study explored the third-person effects among the deaf. The third-person effects indicate a tendency that people tend to overestimated media effects on other or underestimate media effects on self. Additionally, the study also investigated the deaf's news consuming behaviors. The study found that the robust third-person effect among the deafs. Regardless of their disabilities, people tend to overestimated television news effects on others rather than on self if "others" are suggested as family members or neighbors in the same town. However, those who have hearing disabilities or the deaf did not consider perceived other hearing disabled people as "distant others" but "close others". Therefore, the third-person perceptions were the smallest in this study. however, there no differences between high self-esteem groups and low self-esteem groups in terms of the third-person effects.
