국문 초록

본 연구는 혼합방법론을 사용하여 한국판 BSI(the Brief Symptom Inventory)의 문화 및 생태학적 타당성을 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구 참여자는 서울시에 소재한 6개의 건강증진센터에 등록한 219명의 조현병 환자였다. 현장실천가가 연구 참여자들을 직접만나서 설문지를 배포하고 수거하였다. 설문조사 이후에 5명의 현장실천가들로 구성된 초점집단인터뷰가 진행되었으며, 이와는 별도로 5명의 연구 참여자들에게 심층적인 반구조화된 질적 인터뷰가 실시되었다. 설문지를 통하여 얻어진 양적 자료를 이용하여 BSI의 구성 타당성을 검사하기 위한 일련의 확인적 요인분석이 실시되었고, BSI를 사용함에 있어서 나타나는 현상을 이해하고 생태학적 타당성을 살펴보기 위하여 질적 자료 분석을 실시하였다. 주된 연구결과는 다음과 같다. BSI의 단일요인 모형이 요인상관이 있는 아홉 요인 모형보다 자료에 더 잘 부합하는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 하위 아홉 영역들 역시 독립적으로는 자료에 부합하는 것으로 나타났다. 질적 자료 분석 결과 BSI는 문화적 및 생태학적 타당성을 갖춘 증상척도임이 드러났다. 하지만 BSI 문항이 응답자들에게 일정정도 심리적인 어려움을 일으키며 몇몇 문항들은 생태적 타당성이 다소 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 주요 연구결과들에 대한 함의가 논의되어 있다.

영문 초록

The present study was aimed to investigate cultural and ecological validity of the Korean version of the Brief Symptom Inventory by using a mixed method approach. The study sample consisted of 219 Korean adults with schizophrenia from six community based mental health centers at Seoul. Clinicians met participants in their routine practices and administered the BSI. Afterwards, intensive qualitative semi-structured interviews with 5 study participants were conducted by a researcher and a clinician, and a focus group interview with 5 clinicians working at the six community based mental health centers was conducted. Confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to examine the construct validity of the BSI while qualitative data were analyzed to identify themes related to administering the BSI. Major findings are as follows. The study data support the one-factor model of the BSI. However, each of the nine sub-dimensions shows a good model fit to the data. Qualitative data analysis reveals three significant themes. First, the BSI is a culturally and ecologically valid symptom measure. Second, participants point out the matter of some psychological burden. Lastly some wordings in the BSI might not be culturally appropriate for Koreans. Study implications are discussed.
