남한주민과 북한이탈주민의 생활문화 기초 조사

국문 초록

이 논문은 남한주민과 북한이탈주민의 생활문화의 특징을 이해하고, 남한주민과 북한이탈주민의 소통과 문화통합을 모색하기 위해서 남한주민과 북한이탈주민의 의식주, 의례 및 세시풍속 등의 생활풍습과 가족의식, 결혼관, 교육관, 직업관 등의 생활의식을 기초 조사한 후, 이를 비교 분석한 연구이다. 설문조사 분석 결과 남한주민과 북한이탈주민은 모두 의식주, 의례 및 세시풍속 등의 생활풍습에서는 현대인의 생활양식에 맞게 전통적 생활문화를 변용시켜 왔음을 알 수 있었다. 남한주민이 북한이탈주민에 비해 생활풍습이 더욱 서구화 되었고 북한이탈주민이 남한주민에 비해 더 많이 전통적 생활풍습을 유지하고 있는 것으로 나타났지만, 북한이탈주민의 남한입국연도가 길어질수록 이러한 편차는 점차 줄어들었다. 생활풍습 상의 공통점은 오랫동안 다른 체제에서 살아온 남 한주민과 북한이탈주민의 공동체 의식을 유지시키는 기제로 작동하고 있었다. 생활의식의 영역에서는 자본주의와 사회주의 체제에서 살아온 경험과 습관으로 인해 적지 않은 차이점이 발생하고 있었다. 그것은 결혼관과 직업관에서 두드러졌다. 첫째, 남한주민은 해외동포와의 결혼 보다 북한이탈주민과의 결혼에 더욱 부정적인 입장을 보였지만, 북한이탈주민은 해외동포와의 결혼에는 매우 부정적인 입장을 보였으나, 남한주민과의 결혼에 대해서는 긍정적으로 생각하였다. 둘째, 남한주민은 소득수준이 높을수록, 북한주민은 소득수준이 낮을수록 직업 자부심이 강했고, 남한주민은 공무원과 전문직에 대한 선호도가 높았지만 북한이 탈주민은 공무원, 전문직과 더불어 노동자에 대한 자부심이 강했다. 셋째, 직업선택에 있어서 남한주민은 부모의 판단과 권유, 북한이탈주민의 경우에는 국가정책이 큰 영향을 미치고 있었다. 설문조사 분석결과는 남한주민과 북한이탈주민의 문화통합을 고민하는 우리에게 중요한 시사점을 던져주고 있다. 첫째, 남한주민이 북한이탈주민에게 갖는 부정적인 시각을 근본적으로 성찰해야 한다는 점이다. 그리고 이를 위해서는 남한 주민이 가진 편견의 기반이 되고 있는 남북의 긴장상태 완화가 필수적이라는 점이다. 둘째, 남한주민과 북한이탈주민의 체제 경험인 개인주의와 집단주의의 장점을 서로 배우고, 이를 사회 발전의 동력으로 삼는 과정이 필요하다는 점이다. 셋째, 남한주민과 북한이탈주민의 문화통합은 서로의 생활풍습을 존중하는 가운데 민족적 생활풍습의 다양성을 확보하는 한편, 민족적 생활풍습을 확대, 발전시켜가는 방향이 되어야 한다는 점이다. 넷째, 북한이탈주민의 안정적인 사회진출을 위한 국가의 제도적 지원이 강화되어야 한다는 점이다.

영문 초록

This study has carried out a basic survey on food-clothing-shelter, life custom, familial consciousness, educational views, marriage views, occupational views etc. in South Korean and North Korean defectors and compared and analyzed them in order to understand the characteristics of life cultures and to seek communication and cultural integration in South Korean and North Korean defectors. According to the survey result, both of South Koreans and North Korean defectors were found to adapt their traditional life culture to life style of modern people such as clothing, food, housing, rituals and seasoned customs. Comparing to North Korean defectors, South Koreans had more westernized life style, while North Korean defectors maintained traditional life customs more closely. But this gap became narrower as the stay of North Korean defectors got longer. Common things on life customs acted as a mechanism to maintain the sense of community of South Koreans and North Korean defectors who had lived under different systems for a long time. In life consciousness area, there were many differences because of experience and habits picked up in capitalism and socialism. The difference was conspicuous in the sense of marriage and vocation. First, while South Koreans showed negative stance to the marriage to North Korean defectors than that to other overseas brethren, North Korean defectors showed positive stance to the marriage with South Koreans although they were negative to the marriage to overseas brethren. Second, South Koreans had higher pride in their jobs when they had higher level of income, while North Korean defectors had higher pride when they had lover level of income. While South Koreans preferred public servants and professional jobs, North Korean defectors had strong pride in laborer jobs with public servants and professional jobs. Third, the judgment and recommendation of parents (South Koreans) and national policy (North Korean defectors) made the biggest effects on their job selection. The survey results gave us important suggestions to those who pondered on cultural integration of South Koreans and North Korean defectors. First, we need to make fundamental consideration of negative views of South Koreans on North Korean defectors. To do this, mitigation of tension between South and North causing the preoccupation of South Koreans is inevitable. Second, we need a process to learn each other such as strengths of individualism (South Koreans) and collectivism (North Korean defectors) and to make them driving force to develop society. Third, the cultural integration of South Koreans and North Korean defectors should secure diversity of ethnic life customs while respecting their own customs and at the same time should expand and develop ethnic life customs. Fourth, there should be institutional supports of the nation so that North Korean defectors can make stable advancement to the society.
