국문 초록

이 글은 ‘한류의 확산, 발전에서 재외 한국문화원이 코리아타운, 즉 재외동포 사회와 적극적인 협력 관계를 가져야 한다’는 주장을 풀어가기 위한 시론이다. 이를 위해 필자는 오사카와 뉴욕의 코리아타운이 한류의 확산에 적극적으로 기여했다는 현지 연구자의 주장을 소개한 후, 2013년 문화체육관광부가 간행한 『재외 한국문화원 현황』에 나오는 뉴욕과 오사카 한국문화원의 2012년 주요사업실적과 2013년 사업계획내용을 현지 문화원장과의 인터뷰, 필자의 경험과 현지 언론자료 등을 활용하여 한류 확산의 중심기관인 한국문화원이 한인사회, 즉 코리아타운과 협력할 수 있는 방안을 제시했다. 한국문화원이 코리아타운의 축제에 보다 적극적으로 참여하고, 타운 내에서 한국문화(음식, 공연과 강좌 등)를 발신하는 공간인 한식당 <금강산>(뉴욕)과 <반가식공방>과 <달맞이>(오사카)의 사례를 소개했다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to propose that Korean Cultural Centers need to establish active partnership with Korean Diasporic communities overseas for the purpose of further promoting Hallyu. To this end, I first introduce how researchers from Osaka and New York Korea Towns each perceive the role Korea Towns have played in spreading Hallyu. Then, I highlight report of main business projects conducted by Korean Cultural Service NY and Osaka Korean Cultural Center in 2012 as well as their plans for 2013 referencing Overseas Korean Cultural Center’s Current State of Affairs published in 2013 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Then, based on in-depth interviews with Korean Cultural Center directors, personal experience, and content analysis of report from local media I propose ways for Korean Cultural Centers to collaborate with Korean communities for the purpose of spreading Hallyu. I suggests Korean Cultural Centers to actively participate in Korean Festivals Korean communities host; I also provide exemplar cases of Geumgangsan (Korean restaurant) in New York and Bangasiggongbang and Dalmaji (Korean restaurants) in Osaka that hold Korean cultural activities (cooking, performance, lectures etc.).
