『사고전서』에 실린 서경덕 시의 격률에 관하여

국문 초록

서경덕(徐敬德, 1489~1546)의 『화담집(花潭集)』은 『사고전서(四庫全書)』별집류(別集類)에 편입된 유일한 조선의 시문집이다. 그런데 박지원은 서경덕의 시를 “볼 만한 것이 없다.”고 평가했으며, 『사고전서』 역시 『화담집』에 대하여 “그 나라의 방음(方音)이 많이 섞였다.(多襍其國方音)”고 기록하였다. 이에 근거하여 본고에서는 서경덕 시의 성률을 분석해봄으로써, 중국어를 문어(文語)로 배운 조선인 한시의 한계점을 생각해보고, 그럼에도 불구하고 그의 한시가 『사고전서』에 실리게 된 연유를 살펴보고자 한다. 한시를 짓는 데 있어 ‘운서(韻書)’는 필수도구였다. 서경덕이 살던 시기에는, 명나라 태조(太祖) 때에 반포된 『홍무정운(洪武正韻)』과 명나라ㆍ청나라를 거쳐 지금까지 시인들이 준용하는 『평수운(平水韻)』이 실용성을 갖는 주요 운서였으며, 이 중 서경덕이 채택한 것은 『평수운』이었다. 같은 시대의 인물 허종(許琮) 역시 명나라 사신들과의 창수에서 『평수운』을 사용했음이 『황화집(皇華集)』을 통해 나타난다. 그런데 서경덕의 『화담선생문집』에 실린 시 96수를 분석해보면 상당히 많은 작품에서 평측에 맞지 않는 글자와 압운(押韻)의 오류가 나타난다. 중국의 음으로는 구별되나 우리 음으로는 구별되지 않는 가(歌)와 마(麻) 운을 통압(通押)하는가 하면, 고체시에서 상ㆍ거ㆍ입(上去入) 삼성(三聲)의 구분을 어기는 착오가 나타나기도 한다. 서경덕의 시가 격률에 부합되지 않음에도 불구하고 그의 시는 『사고전서』에 실린 유일한 조선의 시가 되었다. 중국은 『사고전서』를 통해 외국 여러 나라들이 황제의 교화를 입고 있다는 사실을 보여주어야 했고, 『사고전서』에 글을 수록하는 가장 큰 기준이 “사람의 재능을 논하지 그 글을 논하지 않는다.”는 것이었으므로 “염락관민(濓洛關閩)의 학설로 뛰어나게 사람들을 가르친” 서경덕의 글을 실었던 것이다.

영문 초록

Seo, Kyung-deok(徐敬德, 1489~1546)'s Hwadamjip(花潭集) is the only Joseon collection of poetry included in The Four Treasuries[四庫全書] 別集類 section. However, Park, Ji Won devaluated Seo, Kyung-deok's poems saying "nothing to see in his poem” and such comment about Hwadamjip as “many dialects(方音) of that nation are mixed in writings(多襍其國方音)” were also found in The Four Treasuries. Based on these, this study will consider the limitation of Joseon poem written in Chinese character-Hanshi(漢詩) whose writter learned Chinese as written language(文語) and will examine the reason why his Hanshi could contain in The Four Treasuries in spite of such limitation by analyzing the rhyme of Seo, Kyung-deok's poems. ‘The book for rhyme(韻書)’ was essential for writing Hanshi. In the Seo, Kyung-deok's period, Hongmujeongwun(洪武正韻) published in Ming dynasty, the reign of king 太祖 and Pyungsuwun(平水韻) used by poets from Ming to Qing dynasty were practical book for rhyme, among these Seo, Kyung-deok selected Pyungsuwun. It can be known in Hwanghwajip that Heo, Jong(許琮) who lived in the same period also used Pyungsuwun in exchanging Hanshi with Ming envoys. By the way, when Seo Kyung-deok's ninety-six poems included in Hwadam- seonsaengmunjip(花潭先生文集) are examined, wrong characters were found such as not following the rule of 平仄-selecting the different tones in which characters are pronounced in Chinese or having false of the rhyme, rhyme in so many poems.; he circulated in case of rhyme of 歌 and 麻 each of which is distinguished in Chinese pronunciation, but cannot be in Korean pronunciation and did not select right character not considering the three hight of pronunciation of 上ㆍ去ㆍ入 in writing free verse(古體詩). Although Seo, Kyung-deok having not follow the rule of rhyme and rhythm, his poems were the only Joseon ones which could be contained in The Four Treasuries. Because by The Four Treasuries, China intended to show the fact that various foreign nations were being civilized by the emperor and the best important principle to select writings which can be included in The Four Treasuries was “consider one's talent, not one's writings.” Therefore, Seo, Kyung-deok's poems can be selected for The Four Treasuries.
