뇌기능특성으로 본 로웬펠드의 시각형과 촉각형 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구는 로웬펠드의 의사실기 아동의 미술표현유형인 시각형과 촉각형에 대한 이해를 뇌기능특성의 관점으로 살펴보고 이에 대한 이론적 근거를 제시함으로써 미술교육적·미술 치료적 현장에서 의사실기 아동의 미술표현유형에 대해 보다 심층적인 이해를 돕고자 하였다. 이에 따라 기존의 선행연구와 문헌을 고찰하고 이를 토대로 로웬펠드와 브리테인이 그의 저서 (『Creativ e and mental growth: 인간을 위한 미술교육』) 에서 제시한 시각형과 촉각형의 미술표현유형과 각 유형의 특성을 보이는 일반 아동의 그림을 중심으로 로웬펠드와 브리테인이 제시한 미술표현유형의 특성과 이를 신석필(1984) 의 연구에서 정리·요약한 내용을 비롯하여 김승인 (2010)의 연구에서 제시된 의사실기 아동의 지각능력 진단 항목을 적용하여 이를 뇌기능특성의 관점으로 분석하였다.그 결과， 시각형은 좌·우뇌를 조화롭게 활용하지만 촉각형에 비해 좌뇌 특성을 좀 더 활용한 표현으로 볼 수 있었으며， 촉각형은 우뇌특성으로 이해 할 수 있었다. 또한 이 시기 아동의 뇌 발달 영역에서 살펴보았을 때， 시각형은 뇌량의 발달과 청각을 담당하는 측두엽， 시각기능을 담당하는 후두엽의 발달에 기인한 결과로 보며， 촉각형은 우뇌의 체성감각과 운동감각， 촉지각을 담당하는 두정엽 에 기인한 결과로 본다. 그리고 이러한 이해를 통해 미술 교육적 장면에서는 의사실기 아동의 미술표현유형을 보다 폭 넓게 이해하게 됨으로써 아동으로 하여금 깊이 있는 자기표현의 기회제공과 자발적 참여 동기를 높이고 보다 높은 성취감과 만족감을 경험할 수 있는 교수학습환경을 조성할 수 있을 것 이다. 또한 미술 치료적 장면에서는 특히 촉각형에서 보여 지는 이전의 발달단계의 표현을 자칫 퇴보로 보게 되어 발생될 수 있는 문제를 의사실기 아동의 미 술표현의한 유형으로 이해하게 됨으로써 이시기 아동의 그림을 보다 폭넓게 이해하게 되는 등의 올바른 미술치료적 접근에 도움이 될 수 있을 것이라 본다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the visual and haptic styles of art expression by children of the pseudo-naturalistic stage, which had been suggested by V. Lowenfeld, from the perspective of brain function characteristics , providing rationales for those styles and helping deeply understand art expressions by children of the same stage in the fields of art education and art therapy . For the purpose , this researcher reviewed previous studies and relevant literature, and analyzed the styles of art expression by children of the pseudo-naturalistic stage. The analysis was conducted in accordance with the visual and haptic styles of art expression that V. Lowenfeld and W. L. Brittain had suggested in their book (『Creative and mental growth』), the summaries of the two styles that Shin Seok Pil (1984) had provided in his study and the items to test the cognitive ability of children of the pseudo-naturalistic stage that Kim Seung In(2010) had proposed in his research. The findings of the study showed that the visual style of art expression by children of the pseudo-naturalistic stage is based on harmony between the use of the right and left brains. but a little more use of the right brain in comparison with the haptic style of art expression that depends more on the characteristics of the right brain. That visual style may be also attributed to the improvement of the corpus callosum and the development of the temporal lobe and the occipital lobe that are respectively responsible for hearing and sight while. that haptic style to the development of the parietal lobe on which somesthesis. kinesthesis and tactile perception depend. The wider and deeper understanding of the styles of art expression by children of the pseudo-naturalistic stage during art education could be led to the formation of a teaching-learning environment in which those children can have the opportunity to express themselves in profound manners. be motivated for voluntary participation and experience the feelings of high achievement and satisfaction. So far, the haptic style of art expression shown by children when in art therapy has often been mistaken as their setback in development. But that style is now being recognized as one of art expression styles that children of the pseudo- naturalistic stage naturally have. This would help a better understanding of paintings drawn by children of the same stage, that is, a better therapeutic approach to them.
