국문 초록

이 논문은 김정한 소설의 문체 특징을 논의해 보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 김정한의 소설을 읽다 보면 운율적 효과로 문장이 마치 살아 움직이는 듯한 느낌 받는다. 그러므로 부담 없이 읽을 수 있는 소설이 김정한 소설이다. 이처럼 소설이 쉽게 읽히며 또 사람의 마음을 끌어 들여 공감하게 하는 원인을 밝힐 수 있는 것이 바로 문체론이다. 김정한은 전 작품에서 풍부한 직유법과 의성어ㆍ의태어를 사용하고 있는데, 이러한 것들은 그의 소설에 운율적 효과로 상쾌한 느낌이 들게 한다. 소설 문장에 남용되다시피 한 직유들이 별로 부담감 없이 독자들에게 친숙하게 읽히면서, 오히려 그의 직유법에 따라 비로소 비교된 사물의 표상이 선명해지고 한층 재미를 낸다. 의성어ㆍ의태어는 소설의 분위기를 실감 나게 엮어내어 마치 그런 일들이 지금 눈앞에서 벌어지고 있는 듯한 현장감을 주며, 시청각적이고 운율적 효과를 주는데 기여하고, 그의 소설 문장의 묘미를 살리고 있다. 또한 김정한 소설 속에 자주 나오는 노래형식은 지루하기 쉬운 산문 형식에 서정의 노래를 삽입함으로써 구성의 탄력과 운율적 효과를 제공한다. 그의 노래형식은 시, 민요, 시조, 시가, 주술 등을 포함하여 다양하게 나타나고 있다. 그 내용으로 볼 때 주로 민중들의 한을 풀어주기도 하고 분노를 표출하기도 하며 주제를 암시하기도 한다. 김정한 문체 연구에서 가장 관심을 끄는 것은 이중 부정을 통한 표현의 효과라 할 수 있다. 이는 다른 작가들에게는 보기 드문 특이한 문장형식의 기교이기도 하다. 김정한의 이중 부정문은 첫째, ‘긍정을 강하게 부각시키는 효과’와, 둘째, ‘회상체(回想體) 문장에서 이중 부정문은 단순한 긍정의 표현보다는 색다른 느낌을 드러내고 ‘강조의 효과’를 낸다. 또한 김정한은 다양한 어휘를 활용하여 풍물, 장면, 인물 등의 묘사에 뛰어난 문학적 효과를 획득하였다.

영문 초록

The very objective of this writing is to observe how the characteristics that the style of Jung Han Kim’s novels have is related to the pleasure of reading his novels. Jung Han Kim’s novels read very easily. When reading his novels, one can understand the story without feeling distant or repulsed. Therefore, Jung Han Kim’s novels are easy to read. Studying the style of the writing helps explaining what makes the story easy to be read and the readers agree and identify with the story. Jung Han Kim uses a lot of similes, onomatopoeia, and mimetic words in all his works, making sentences alive with the prosodic effect. Kim uses similes that are frequently found in novels, and readers who are familiar with these similes have clearer picture of objects that Kim used in similes. This makes it fun for readers to follow. Onomatopoeia and mimetic words make the mood in the novel more realistic, picturing the scenes as if they are actually happening before readers’ eyes, They also contribute in giving audio-visual and prosodic effects, making the sentences more interesting. Musical form that is frequently introduced in Jung Han Kim’s novels provides momentum in the structure and also gives prosodic effect as lyrical songs are inserted into prose, which can be boring. Forms of songs used vary: poems, traditional songs, traditional three-verse Korean poem called sijo, and incantations. In the context of the story, they usually resolve public’s deep sorrow, express anger, or hint the theme. The most interesting part in studying Jung Han Kim’s writing style was the effect of double negative expressions. This is a unique technique used in sentences, which is not frequently found in other writers’ works. Jung Han Kim’s double negative sentences have the effect of 1) strongly emphasizing positive and 2) stressing positive in flashbacks in a unusual way. In addition, Jung Han Kim achieved an excellent literary effect in describing objects and scenary, scenes, and people, utilizing various vocabularies.
