국문 초록

이 글에서는 제주 전통옹기의 복원에 참여하고 있는 집단들의 활동과 이해갈등에 초점을 맞춰 제주 전통옹기가 지역문화유산으로 자리매김해가는 과정을 살펴보았다. 구체적인 분석을 위해서는 문헌자료 이외에 전문가집단 및 과거 전통옹기 생산에 몸담았던 도공들과의 심층인터뷰자료를 사용하였다. 제주 전통옹기의 초창기 복원과정은 행정당국의 지원이 거의 없는 상황에서, 과거 전통옹기 제작에 몸담았던 도공들이 참여한 민간단체가 주도하였는데, 제주 전통가마와 전통옹기를 복원하고 그 가치를 정리하고 알리는 활동에 주력하였다. 점차 문화·관광 상품으로서 제주 전통옹기의 상업적 잠재력이 커지면서 전통옹기의 복원에 참여하고 있는 집단들 간에 이해 분화와 갈등 양상이 나타나게 된다. 앞으로 이에 대한 심층적인 연구와 함께 제주옹기업의 성쇠가 지역사회 및 제주옹기업에 종사했던 지역민의 생활에 미친 영향에 대한 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to check the restoration process of the traditional Jeju Onggi industry which went off was made as a cultural heritage in Jeju area, focusing on the relationship among interest groups which circled restoration and succession of traditional pottery. The material used for an analysis in detail in addition to the document material is the interview material of depths with the persons of organizations and the local self-governing body persons concerned who have made an effort for Jeju Onggi restoration, and interview material of emotional depths with the potters who participated in traditional pottery production. The early stage restoration process of the Jeju traditional pottery had been led by private organizations with the potters who participated in traditional pottery production. By the middle stage of 2000’s restoration work of Jeju Onggi was saying that it concentrated on arranging and telling the reproduction of Jeju traditional Onggi and its value through a traditional portable shrine’s restoring mainly. After the opening of Jeju Onggi Museum in 2010, restoration and succession of Jeju Onggi have constructed as a cultural heritage making of Jeju Onggi and in commercializing dimension for sightseeing.
