국문 초록

본 연구는 사회정의를 위한 미술교육 이론과 실천 사례들을 중심으로 미술과 사회와의 관계를 적극적으로 사고하는 미술교육의 방향을 모색하고자 한다. 이는 한편으로 시각문화교육의 심화를 위한 내용적, 관점적 보완과 함께 우리 미술교육의 성장을 위한 자원을 얻기 위해서이다. 사회정의를 위한 미술교육의 실천을 검토하기 위해 교육적 이념적 원리로서 탈 모던적 미학, 비판이론과 비판교육학, 실천에 대한 개념을 다루었다. 실제 사례 연구는 개념 정의를 시작으로 대화적 교수법, 행동주의적 공동작업, 미디어 활용, 봉사학습 영역에서 조망하였다. 사회정의를 위한 미술교육은 정의에 대한 신념의 변화와 표현, 부정의와 불평등에 대한 인식과 행동적 참여, 민주적 시민의식함양, 비판적 사고, 역량강화, 탐구능력ㆍ협력ㆍ의사소통 능력 향상을 목적으로 한다. 다양한 실천 사례들은 우리에게 미술교육의 사회적 책임과 헌신의 필요성을 제안하며 미술 활동이 공동체사회의 재구성 수단이 될 수 있다는 것, 윤리적 인성 함양에 도움이 되며, 실험적이고 학제적인 교수법의 개발을 자극하고 다양한 교육적 변화의 계기가 될 것이다.

영문 초록

This article tries to find the way how art education can contribute to reconstruction of social relationship between art and society. Among the issues of contemporary art education, I pick up the aspect that called art education for social justice, and want to connect it to our educational context. I made a intensive investigation into art education for social justice form its theoretical back ground, definition, to practical teaching methods. In the practices of art education for social justice, we can extract four characteristics from it-dialogical pedagogy, activist collaborations, appling multi-media, service learning. Through this lens, education becomes a vehicle of social transformation. We can witness the transformative power of learning. As Freire said that educators have to engage in the practice of freedom, the means by which the people deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in th transformation of their world. Through students’ artworks, educators are more able to identify how students see their world and how their visual constructions of meaning reveal their own beliefs about social locations such as gender, race, class, and sexual orientation. Students’ visual construction of meaning is not static and their construction of visual meaning is charged with ideology. activities to recognize issues of difference, challenge assumptions, promote decision-making, expand perceptions, and practice negotiation within groups. Teaching for social justice means going beyond teaching tolerance to engage in the difficult personal and cultural work necessary to help create a brighter future for all.
