국문 초록

배경 및 목적: 본 연구는 강세구가 연속된 말소리의 분절단위인지와 강세구를 표지하는 음높이 정보가 말소리 이해에 어떤 도움을 주는지를 알아보았다. 방법: 실험 1은 단어찾기과제를 사용하여 국지적 어휘 중의성이 있을 때에 강세구 간 경계조건과 강세구 내 음운단어 경계조건에서 단어탐지에 걸리는 시간이 달라지는지를 알아보았다. 실험 2는 음절찾기과제를 사용하여 실험 1에서 발견하지 못한 음높이 정보와 경계조건간의 상호작용을 찾고자 하였다. 결과: 실험 1에서 강세구 간 경계조건의 반응시간이 강세구 내 음운단어 경계조건의 반응시간보다 느렸다. 또한 음높이 정보의 주효과가 유의미하였으나 경계조건과 음높이 정보간의 상호작용은 유의미하지 않았다. 실험 2의 결과는 경계조건만 유의미한 효과를 보였고 음높이 정보의 주효과, 경계조건과 음높이 정보간의 상호작용은 관찰되지 않았다. 논의 및 결론: 본 연구결과는 청자가 강세구 내 음운단어 경계를 분절하는 것보다 강세구 간 경계를 분절하는 것이 더 쉬움을 보였고, 음높이 정보가 말소리의 효율적인 초기 처리와 이해에 기여함을 밝혔다.

영문 초록

Background & Objectives: The present study investigated whether the accentual phrase was the unit which listeners segmented sentences into and how pitch information, an important factor to mark the accentual phrase, was used for speech comprehension. Method: Two experiments were conducted using two monitoring tasks. Experiment 1 tested whether detection of words generated by local lexical ambiguities differed based on the type of boundary (accentual phrase boundary, phonological word boundary, etc.) using a word monitoring task. In Experiment 2, a syllable monitoring task was used to determine the interaction between the two conditions that might have been missed in Experiment 1 due to the task. Results: Experiment 1 showed that the reaction time in the accentual phrase boundary condition was longer than that in the phonological word boundary condition. There was a significant main effect of pitch information. However, there was no interaction between the two conditions (types of boundary and presence/absence of pitch information). Experiment 2 showed a significant effect of boundary type as shown in Experiment 1 but no effect of pitch information or the interaction of the two conditions. Discussion & Conclusion: Findings from the present study showed that segmentation of continuous speech according to accentual phrase boundary was easy compared to segmentation within the phonological word boundary and suggested that pitch information contributed to early processing and comprehension of speech sounds.
