영문 초록

This study examined hitherto researches on Gando’s sovereignty problem in terms of following 5 core issues: 1. How to define the boundary of Gando? 2. Whether the TOMUN River inscribed on Mt. Paektu Demarcation Stone Duman River or Tomun River? 3. Why/How did the problem ignited? 4. Why did Joog-ha Lee give up Gando? 5. What do the old maps of western countries have to do with Monument Defining the Borderline (Paektusan Chonggyebi, Mt. Paektu Demarcation Stone)? This research revealed that parts of the arguments presented in the previous studies on Gando’s Sovereignty problem lack logical coherence so that they can hardly be valued as historical material. How to compensate these weaknesses and to develop new logicality remains for the future researchers on Gando problem. This vulnerability would also be applicable to China, the country concerned with Gando dominium dispute.
