다문화가정 초등학생과 초등 예비교사의 멘토링에 대한 인식

국문 초록

국내에서 다문화가정 자녀들의 교육지도를 위한 멘토링 활동은 시작단계이다. 본 연구는 교육대학교에서 겨울방학동안 실시한 5주간 15회기의 멘토링에 참여한 초등예비교사들과 다문화 가정 초등학생들의 만족도를 조사한 것이다. 본 연구대상자는 111명의 멘토들과 144명의 멘티들이며, 설문응답에 대한 자료 분석은 빈도와 백분율을 통해 산출되었다. 본 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 예비교사들은 멘토링 경험에 대해 긍정적인 반응을 보였다. 둘째, 멘티초등학생들은 멘토링에 대해 만족한다는 응답이 대부분이었다.멘토링 활동은 교과지도에 집중되었는데, 멘티들은 초등예비교사들의 지도방법에 대해 긍정적인 반응을 보였다. 그러나 일부 멘티 초등학생들은 교과지도 이외에 문화체험이나 생활지도를 더 요구하였다. 멘토링이 교과지도에만 집중되는 것이 아니라 다양한 활동을 추후에 계획하는 것이 필요하다.어떤 멘티 초등학생들은1회에 3시간씩 진행되는 수업시간이 길다고 생각하였기 때문에 이에 대한 보완이 필요한 것 같다. 교육대학교에 재학 중인 예비교사들이 다문화 멘토링 활동에 참여하는 것은 앞으로 이들이 교사가 되었을 때, 다문화 가정의 아동을 이해하 는 데 기여할 것으로 보인다.추후 연구는 멘토링 경험에 대한 질적 연구도 병행되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The system of mentoring children from multicultural families based in Korea is still in its early stages. The purpose of this study was to examine the level of satisfaction about the mentoring of elementary in-service teachers and elementary students in multicultural families. The mentoring program was led by the National University of Education. The study was conducted for 15 sessions over 5 weeks during the winter vacation. The participants included 111 mentors and 144 mentorees. After the survey was concluded, the data was analyzed through frequency and percentile. The results highlighted several areas of interest. Firstly, pre-service teachers showed positive responses to the experience of mentoring. Secondly, elementary students also expressed positive outcomes for mentoring. The mentors mostly concentrated on teaching curricular subjects, and mentorees were satisfied with that. However some of the mentorees had hoped for a different kind of learning experience. For example mentorees suggested exploring culture, counseling and guidance. Based on these results, it would be possible to plan and develop various different mentoring activities. The mentoring time was for three hours per session. The mentorees perceived that this was too long a time. It was therefore crucial that the time needed to be properly managed. The in-service teachers participation helped them to understand children from multicultural families. For future study, qualitative studies are recommended.
