국문 초록

가면극에 대한 이해는 삶의 저변에 깊이 내재되어 있는 문화적 가치로서 구연자 또는 연행자에 따라 그리고 그 문화적 현상을 해석하는 학자에 따라 학문적 이견을 달리하는 분야이다. 가면극을 구성하는 두 실체이자 개념인 ‘가면’ 과 ‘극’은 그 정의가 상이함에도 불구하고， 가면극에서는 따로 분리되어 실행될 수 없는 특별한 문화적 필연 조건을 갖추고 있다. 루마니아 동물 가면극은 다양한 동기나 행사로 계절에 관계없이 공연되기도 하지만， 일반적으로는 겨울철에 집중되어 연행된다. 크리스마스 전후로부터 시작되어 새해 초까지 이어지는 전통 풍습 중 그 절정은 동물 가면의 등장이다 가면극의 연행은 동불 가연 연행자를 중심으로 집정관， 목동， 영감， 악마 등 다양한 참여자들로 구성되며， 이 가면극 무리는 온 마을을 돌면서 마을 공동제의 이해와 결속을 야기하고 축원한다. 가면극 연행은 외형적으로는 웃음과 해학을 자아내고 그 대가를 바라는 것이 전부인거처럼 보이지만， 그 내면에는 땅의 비옥함， 사람을 비롯한 가축의 건강 그리고 악령이나 사악한 기운으로부터 경작지를 지켜내고자하는 바람이 내재되어 있다 가면은 오랜 문화의 계승이라는 측면외에도 경제 상태와 인문 지리적 기능을 가진다. 지역에 따라 가면과 극의 종류가 다르지만， 루마니아 동물 가면극 중 가장 널리 알려진 것은 ‘카프라 (Capra)’ ， ‘투르카(Turca) ’， ‘우르술(Ursul)’， ‘브레자 이아(Brezaia) ’， ‘커이우치(Caiutii)', ‘체르불(Cerbul)’ 등이다. 이러한 동물 가변의 연행을 통해 다산과 비옥 풍요와 행운을 기원하는 것은 물론 동물 가연을 통해 해당 동물의 지혜와 힘을 빌리고자 하였다. 또한 가면극은 악령이나 사악한 기운으로부터 액막이와 부적의 역할을 하며， 미혼자들이 결혼 대상을 만날 수 있는 대동의 장 역할을 하기도 한다. 루마니아 동물 가면은 세계의 보편적인 가연들이 갖고 있는 장식과 기능적인 면의 부각 외에도 초자연적인 존재， 특히 신화나 민속학적 의미에서의 동물의 화현으로서의 가면이자 산자를 위한 가면으로서의 특징을 가진다. 또한 가면극은 신화적 상징성과 속 (1tt profane) 의 범주를 바탕으로 연행되며， 제의와 유희적인 요소들이 동시에 존재하는 화합과 결속의 장을 마련한다.

영문 초록

The masque is the field in which the view is differed by scholars who want to analyze the cultural phenomenon related to the masks and by the actors who perform with masks for the cultural value. The two concepts which organize the masque, the mask and the drama, although they have different definitions, are impossible to separate each other in the masque. The Romanian masque of animals is presented by various events of rural community without reference to the seasons, but this is centered generally on the winter. The climax of the traditional customs during a wintry period between the Christmas and the New Year is the appearance of animal's masks. The performance of masque is made up of diverse actors wearing costumes and masks of animals, the consuls, the shepherds, the old men and the devils and the company of this masque prays for the understanding and solidarity of the community going around the whole village. It seems exteriorly like the performance of masque evokes the laugh and the humor looking for the recompense, but in the interior aspect this includes the wish related with the fertility of earth, the health of people and domestic animals and the defense of arable land against the evil spirits and the vicious forces. Above and beyond the aspect of succession to the old traditional cultures, the mask has the function of economic states and anthropogeography. In accordance with regions, the kinds of masks and masques are different, but the most widely known performances among the Romanian masques of animals are ‘Capra’, ‘Turca’, ‘Ursul’, ‘Brezaia’, ‘Caiutii’, ‘Cerbul’ etc. Through this public performance of animal’s mask, people pray for the fertility , the fecundity , the abundance and the good fortune as a matter of course, and wish to get the pertinent animal’s might and wisdom through these animal’s masks. Moreover, the masque has the role of the preventing misfortune and the talisman against evil spirits, and this prepares and arranges the place of the community’s solidarity in which the unmarried persons meet their one of a pair. Besides the functional aspects and the ritual decoration which the universal masks have, the Romanian animal's mask has the special features as a supernatural existence, especially as a mask transformed into animals in the folkloric meanings and a mask only for the quick (the living creature) Moreover, these masques perform under the basis of the profane categories and the mythic symbolism, and the elements of rite and amusement coexist as the stage of the solidarity and the unity in all these together.
