譚歌 <보이카(Voica)>에 나타난 ‘死者의 여행’ 모티프 연구

국문 초록

‘죽은 오빠의 여행’ 또는 ‘死者의 여행’으로 일컬어지는 譚歌의 유형은 남동 유럽, 특히 발칸유럽을 중심으로 폭넓게 퍼져있는 공통 주제의 하나이다. 일반적으로 이 유형은 크게 두 가지 계통으로 나뉘어 발전되었다고 추론되는데, 하나는 고대 희랍-알바니아-루마니아이고, 다른 하나는 세르비아-불가리아 유형이다. 전자는 저주, 늙은 엄마와의 갈등, 장례의 관습에 더 많은 관심을 보이고 있는 반면, 후자는 먼 곳으로 시집가는 딸의 결혼과 관례에 더 많은 관심을 보인다. 루마니아의 개별성과 우월성을 보여주는 대표적인 작품인 <보이카(Voica)>는 그 예술적 가치가 결혼, 장례와 같은 루마니아의 통과의례와 관습에 나타난 민속적 가치와 결합하여 민속학적 모티프로 발전된 경우이다. <보이카>는 약속의 문제와 파기 그리고 그로 인한 사회로부터의 벌칙과 화해의 플롯을 구성하고 있는데, 발칸지역의 담가들과는 달리 루마니아의 담가 <보이카>유형은 장례의 관습과 풍습이 작품 속에 결합되어 있다. <보이카> 에 대한 감상과 이해는 두 가지 측면에서 고려되어져야 할 것이다.하나는 도덕적이고 교육적인 측면으로써 그 전형은 부모의 말을 듣지 않는 아이와 그에 따른 부모의 저주인데, <보이카>에서는 아들의 약속과 파기가 늙은 모친의 저주를 불러일으키며, 이야기가 전개된다. 다른 하나는 초인적이고 신성한 힘의 개입으로써 저주 이후 나타난 비밀스럽고 초자연적인 神聖不可侵의 왕국(이승과 저승)을 넘나드는 여행 그리고 母子間, 男妹間, 길손과 새들 사이의 대화들이 대표적인데, 이는 이야기에 생기를 불어넣어 주는 주요 요소이자 원천이 되고 있다. 담가 <보이카>의 도입부에 표현된 늙은 엄마와 그녀가 자리한 아름다운 전원의 모습은 청자의 호기심을 끌기에 충분하였고, 특히 유령으로 변신한 아들, ‘암흑의 숲’과 밤을 가로질러 날아가는 여행, 산자와 죽은 이를 환기시키는 새들의 지저귐은 담가 <보이카>가 여타의 구비작품들과 다른 개별성으로 돋보일 수 있었던 요소들이다. 신비감과 예술적 기교의 선상에서‘사실’과 ‘환타지’의 두 세계가 공존하는 담가 <보이카>는 통과의례의 결혼과 죽음이라는 사건을 통한 사실적 묘사 외에도 저주와‘死者의 여행’을 통한 환상적인 모습을 보여주는 의미 깊은 구비 작품이다.

영문 초록

The type of ballads named such as ‘the journey of the dead brother’ or ‘the journey of the dead man’ represents one of the main themes spread out to the southeast Europe, especially in the countries of the Balkan Europe. Generally, this type is considered to develop by two lineages : one is the lineage of ancient Greece-Albania-Romania and the other is one of Serbia-Bulgaria. The former is interested relatively in the themes like the curse, the complication with the old mother and the customs of funeral etc. and the latter is concerned about the custom of wedding through which the daughter is sent far away. The ballad Voica which shows us the individual case and superiority of Romanian emotions is a case, in contrast with the other oral literary works, in which the artistic conscience developed favorably into the folk motif combining with the rite of passage and customs as marriage and funeral. Voica constitutes the structure and plot of the social penalty and econciliation which are caused by the problems of promise(or pledge) and breach. We observe the old customs and usual practices of funeral weld into Voica, unlike the other ballads of Balkan regions. The appreciation and understanding of Voica must be considered with two points of view. One is an educational aspect and the other is an intervention of supernatural and divine powers. The curse is a representative case of the former. In Voica, the mother's curse is generated by the breach of son's promise and with this the story begins. The intervention of supernatural and divine powers appears through the content of conversations between mother and son, brother and sister, travellers and birds etc. and the mystic journey which have access to the inviolable kingdom as the world beyond and this world. Each element mentioned in these two points of view is an important factor and simultaneously a source which infuses life into the story. Two worlds as one of the ‘reality’ and the other of the 'fantasy' coexist in Voica, taking a side view of mystery and artistic technics. Voica is a significant work in the Romanian oral literature which let us see fantastic looks by the curse and ‘journey of a dead man’, besides the realistic description of incidents connected with rites of passage like marriage and funeral.
