국문 초록

헝가리의 創世神話와 民族起源神話는 머고르Magor라는 존재에 의해 연결되어 있다. 헝가리 민족의 신 화는 신화사에 있어 관심의 대상인 ‘신화의 형성과 재편 양상’을 선명하게 보여주는 대표적인 사례에 해 당한다. 본고에서는 헝가리 민족이 유럽세계에 정착하고 국가를 성립시켜 나가는 과정에서 주변 국가들 과의 충돌을 극복하는 방편으로 선택한 중세보편종교의 수용과 신화의 재편 양상에 관하여 살폈다. 고 대 앗시리아 지역의 니므롯(Nimrod) 신화와 헝가리 민족기원신화가 성서를 매개로 신화를 재편한 양상 을 검토했다. 그리고 역사적으로 민족기원을 훈 족과 관련시키지 않으면서 신화에서는 특별하게 훈 족 과의 관련성을 강조하는 양상과 원인에 관하여 검토했다. 동방의 이민족이 유럽세계에 진출하여 국가를 성립시키고 지속시켜온 이면에 주변 민족들과의 관계가 중요하게 작용할 수밖에 없고, 그 과정에서 중 세보편종교인 기독교의 磁場 안으로 자발적으로 들어갈 수밖에 없었다고 판단된다. 기독교를 수용하면 서 중세보편종교를 국교로 삼은 유럽의 다른 국가와 이질적이지 않은 점을 분명히 하면서, 한편으로 헝 가리 민족의 오랜 역사적 경험을 투영하여 야벳과 니므롯의 혈통과 성격을 변화시켜 개별성을 드러내는 방식을 신화를 통해 구체화한 것으로 보인다. 훈 족과의 친연성을 유독 강조하는 신화적 발상은 주변 국가들과 자국 내의 귀족 세력에 효과적으로 대응하기 위한 방편에 기인하는 것일 수 있고, 한편으로 훈 족과 머저르 족이 혈통적으로 밀접한 관련이 있는 역사적 사실을 반영한 것으로도 볼 수 있다. 동방의 異民族으로서 유럽에 정착하여 생존을 지속하기 위하여 기독교를 적극적으로 받아들이면서 성서에 등장하는 니므롯을 자신들의 조상으로 견인한 것은 이와 같은 복합적인 까닭이 있어서 그랬다고 생각된다. 헝가리의 오랜 역사적 경험을 근거로 판단하면 이민족의 정착과정에서 필연적으로 선택할 수 밖에 없는 하나의 방편이 신화의 양상으로 나타났다고 판단되는 것이다.

영문 초록

Hungarian myths of world creation and their people's Origin are related to existence of Magor. Hungarian people's myths are clear examples of "aspects of creation of myths and reorganization" which is a very interesting theme on history of myths. On this article, I examined aspects of acceptance of middle age's general religions and reorganization of myths which were expediencies for Hungarian people averting conflicts with neighbouring peoples during settling down and establishing nation in Europe. I examined how ancient Assyria's Nimrod myth and Hungarian people's Origin myth reorganized through Bible. And historically, also I tried to explain why Hungarian myth put accent on relationship with the Huns even if their history does not speak much about their relationship with the Huns. Hungarian people, as a people who migrated from Orient to Europe, they should put accent on relationship with neighbouring people. In this course, Christianity, as a middle age's general religion, was a very positive element for them. Accepting christianity, they could clearly show that they are not different from other neighbouring european people, and on the other hand, the idea of accentuation of Hungarian people's extraordinary closer relationship with the Huns created to deal with the noble strata and neighbouring states. This also shows familial closer relation between the Huns and the Magyar. This is why Hungarian people, as a migrated people from Asia to Europe, should accept Christianity and pull Nimrod from bible as their ancestors. From the long history of Hungary, aspects of myths of Hungary show necessary means for establishing a state as a migrated people.
