국문 초록

예지 안제예프스키(Jerzy Andrzejewski: 1909-1983)는 전후 폴란드 문학을 대표하는 소설가이다. 1960년에 발표된 소설 『천국의 문』은 한 때 사회주의 이데올로기를 적극적으로 지지했던 작가가 급변 하는 현대사의 질곡 속에서 좌절과 혼란을 거듭하다가 결국 체제 비판적인 방향으로 그 행보를 확고하 게 전환한 후에 집필했던 대표적인 작품이다. 비록 사회주의 정부의 엄격한 검열로 인해 과격한 현실비 판이나 강력한 저항의식이 드러나 있지는 않지만, 그 내부에는 인간의 도덕성을 마비시키는 이데올로기 에 대한 단호한 비판 의지를 발견할 수 있다. 세계 제 2차 대전, 나치에 의한 아우슈비츠 수용소의 유태인 대학살, 바르샤바 무장봉기, 사회주의 체 제로의 전환 등 역사적 격동기를 생생하게 체험했던 안제예프스키에게 있어 화려하게 포장된 이데올로 기는 그 이면에 감춰진 인간의 추악한 욕망을 충족시키기 위한 수단이자 지배자의 권력을 유지시키는 도구에 불과할 따름이다. 지극히 개인적이고 세속적인 욕망으로 절망하고 괴로워하는 ‘자아의 갈등’은 공동체가 추구하는 이상과 개인이 직면한 현실 사이에 가로놓인 괴리감으로 인해 ‘세계와의 갈등’을 양 산하게 된다. 결국 ‘개체’로써의 자아의 고유한 인성은 ‘체제’라는 거대한 질서 앞에서 무참하게 희생되고 마는 것이 작금의 현실인 것이다. 따라서 작가가 궁극적으로 관심을 가지고 있는 문제는 이데올로기 자 체가 아니라 세속적인 욕망을 끊임없이 야기시키는 개인의 잠재적인 본성에 있다고 할 수 있겠다. 안제예프스키는 『천국의 문』에서 이데올로기의 노예로 전락하면서도 스스로 끊임없이 이데올로기를 필요로 하는 인간의 나약한 본성을 꿰뚫고 있다. 21세기를 살고 있는 오늘의 독자들이 1960년에 쓰여진 이 작품을 매개체로 하여, 중세 시대를 배경으로 하고 있는 ‘소년 십자군’의 모습에 자신이 속한 사회와 공간을 비추어 볼 수 있는 것은 바로 인류의 역사 속에서 반복되고 있는 고질적인 권력구조의 모순과 병폐적인 이데올로기의 맹목성 때문인 것이다.

영문 초록

Jerzy Andrzejewski (1909-1983) is a typical novelist of the postwar Polish Literature. The『Gate of Heaven』was released in 1960 after writer, once supported the socialism ideology ardently, has converted his ideology to system Critique after getting severely skeptical about the restrain and contradiction of socialism. The radical critique of reality and stubborn resistance were not written on the book due to the strict censor of the socialism government. Although a will to criticize decisively about ideology paralyzing the human morality could be found in it. Andrzejewski is famous for reflecting his experiences in life such as the World War II and German's forcible occupation, the Jews massacre in Auschwitz proceeded by Nazis, transition to socialism directly after the war and so on to his literature work. For him, gorgeously wrapped ideology was just means to satisfy humans' abominable desires hidden on the other sides and also just an implement to maintain dominator's authority as well. 'Conflict of ego' despaired and suffered by personal and earthbound desires collide against an ideal pursued by the community and produces 'Conflict against the world'. Eventually, it is the reality that a peculiar humanism of an ego as an 'individual' is sacrificed ruthlessly for the huge order named 'Structure' Therefore, the ultimate issue that author concerns is not about the ideology itself but the original nature of individual's latent bringing earthbound desires constantly. In the 『Gate of Heaven』, Andrzejewski criticized on the feeble nature of human beings in which requires ideology ceaselessly for him even though he become as a slave of ideology. The reason that Korean readers living in 21st century can not help reminding the reality they belong to while reading the 『Gate of Heaven』, takes the middle age as a background, is due to the contradiction of chronic social structure and blindness of vicious ideology which repeats through the human history.
