국문 초록

우주의 원초적인 요소 물, 불, 흙, 공기는 인간의 삶과 죽음과 연관되어 있기 때문에 각 민족의 통과의례와 필연적인 관계를 갖고 있다. 물은 생명의 근원이며 생명의 씨가 번성하는 만물의 모태이다. 그래서 임신부와 물의 관계는 다 같이 다산과 비옥함에 근거하고 있다. 주술적인 힘을 전달하고 받을 수 있는 새 물, 초수(初水)는 원초적 물의 생명을 창조하는 가치를 포함하기 때문에 치료의 효과를 갖는다. 그래서 신생아의 목욕이나 망자의 씻김에 이물이 사용되며 그리고 인간은 물을 통해 재탄생, 정화, 경신되는 것이기 때문에 물의 상징성은 죽음과 재탄생을 의미한다. 루마니아의 장례 의례 중에 “물의 운송" 또는 ”물 봉헌"이라는 의례는 물이 망자의 갈증으로 표현된 고통을 물로 해소한다는 의미를 갖고 있다. 땅은 여성과 동화되어 다산과 재생의 의미를 갖고 있다. 땅은 지모신이라 루마니아에서는 여자가 직접 땅 위나 또는 화덕이나 침대앞 짚 위에서 아이를 출산하는 풍습이 있다. 루마니아의 올테니아 지방에서는 병든 아이의 이름을 기와에 써서 강물에 던지는 관습과 병든 아이를 굴속에 두는 풍습은 재탄생을 통한 치유, 흙을 통한 치료와 정화를 말한다. 불은 조물주에게서 모든 에너지를 받았던 생명의 원리이고 자연의 모든 행동을 포함하는 기본적인 원리이며 생명이고 또 생명의 싹이다. 또한 통과의례에서 불은 정화와 재생의 가치를 갖는다. 루마니아 민속 신앙에서는 보통 영혼은 공기로 간주된다.

영문 초록

The fundamental elements of the universe as the water, the fire, the soil and the air are related necessarily to the Rites of Passage of every race, because these are connected with life and death. The water is the root of the life and also is the mother's womb in which the seed of the life prospers. Therefore, the relation between the pregnant woman and the water is based on the fecundity and the fertility. The new water or the first water, which is known to communicate the force of the incantation, has the effect of the medical treatment, because she includes the value for creating a new life. Accordingly, this water is used for the bath of a newborn baby or to wash a dead person. The human being realizes a revival, a purification and a renewal through the water, so the symbol of the water means the death and the rebirth. Ceremonies named as “the transport of the water” or“the dedication of the water” in the Romanian funeral rites mean that the water removes the pain expressed as the dead person's thirst. The earth has the meaning of the revival and the fecundity assimilated with the woman nature. The earth was accepted as the spirits of the terrain, so women gave birth to babies directly on the earth, stove or straws in front of the bed in Romania. The Oltenia's customs in Romania which put a sick child in the cave or throw the tile written the sick child's name in the river, symbolize the recovering through the rebirth and the purification through the soil. The fire is the principle of the life as a whole energy received from the Creator and also is the fundamental principle which includes everything of the nature as a bud of the life in the same time. Besides, the fire has the value of the revival in the rites of passage. In the Romanian popular belief, the spirit is considered generally as the air.
