국문 초록

본 논문의 목적은 평생교육의 철학적 이념을 Dewey의 경험의 연속성과 성장의 연속성을 통하여 고찰하는데 있다. 경험의 연속성은 과정으로서의 경험과 결과로서의 경험이 각각 분리되는 것이 아니라 서로 연속한다는 것이다. Dewey는 성장이란 계속적으로 경험을 재구성하며 환경과의 상호작용을 통하여 환경에 대처할 수 있는 능력으로 보았다. 따라서 성장은 인간의 삶이 존속되는 한 계속되는 발달의 전 과정을 의미하는 개념이다. Dewey의 경험의 연속성과 성장의 연속성은 평생교육의 철학적 이념 정립에 중요한 영향을 미쳤다고 볼 수 있다. Dewey는 교육은 인간의 생활자체이고, 성장이며 끊임없는 경험의 재구성이라 하였다. 이는 교육이 한 개인의 전체적인 삶이면서 동시에 일생을 통한 계속적인 성장으로 이해되는 것이다. Dewey의 이러한 사상은 인간 전 생애의 성장, 생활 그 자체를 교육이라 할 수 있는 즉, 평생교육을 통한 계속적인 보완과 새로움을 창조하기 위한 교육으로서 설명할 수 있는 철학적 근거를 제공해 주었다고 평가할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study is to examine the philosophical idea of life-long education through continuity of experience and growth in John Dewey. Continuity of experience is not separated into process and result of experience but is continued. Dewey considered that growth is ability to cope environment through interaction of human and environment. Also, growth means constant reconstruction of experience. Therefore, growth is a conception that means whole process which develops continually as long as the person's life lasts. Dewey's continuity of experience and growth influenced an important effect on the philosophical idea of life-long education. Dewey said that education is just a life of person, growth and reconstruction of experience. It is understood that education is the whole life of individual as well as constant reconstruction of growth. In conclusion, I can evaluate that dewey's these thought provides philosophical foundation of life-long education.
