소크라테스의 교육방법 철학에 대한 성인교육적 논의

국문 초록

오늘날 성인교육에서는 학습자의 주관적인 특성을 고려한 교육방법의 적용이 매우 중요하게 대두되고 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 학습자의 일상생활과 자기성찰성을 강조한 소크라테스의 교육철학을 성인교육적 차원에서 고찰해 보는 것은 매우 큰 의미가 있다. 소크라테스는 교육을 지식전달이나 직업훈련이 아니라 학습자들의 성찰적인 사고를 확장시키는 것으로 간주하였으며 대화과정을 통해 그 목적을 실현해갔다. 소크라테스적 교육방법인 산파술은 이러한 측면에서 성인의 교육과 학습의 원칙에 매우 맞닿아 있다. 소크라테스의 교육방법의 철학에서 학습자가 스스로 사고하고, 결정하는 자율성의 원칙과 학습자의 경험과 내적인 판단원칙을 기초로 하여 스스로가 학습의 주체가 되는 자기 주도적 학습의 원칙을 발견할 수 있다. 또한 그의 이론은 교수자와 학습자가 상호 작용을 통해 학습의 효과를 높일 수 있는 토론속의 집단역학의 가능성을 보여 주면서 학습자의 태도나 행동의 변화를 촉진시키고 있다는 점에서 새로운 시각에서의 접근이 필요하다고 보여진다. 소크라테스의 교육방법은 학습자들이 끊임없는 자기성찰을 통해 자기의 부족함을 깨닫고 주체적으로 배우고자 하는 노력을 계속하게 하도록 독려하고 있다는 점에서 성인교육의 방법론적 철학이 엿보인다. 이러한 측면에서 소크라테스적 대화과정은 학습자의 주관적인 특성을 고려한 대상자 중심의 성인교육방법의 이론적 토대로서 인식되어져야 한다.

영문 초록

In today's lifelong education, it is becoming increasingly important to offer educational methods and programs that take into account the subjective characteristics of learners. Accordingly, this study hopes to rediscover the modern meaning of the Socratic method by examining the philosopher who personally practiced his teaching method based on the daily lives of learners and self-reflection. Socrates regarded education not as knowledge delivery or vocational training but as the extension of reflective thinking of learners, realized through the dialogue process. Maieutics, Socrates' teaching method, is consistent with principles of life education. In maieutics, you can find the principle of autonomy in which learners think and decide for themselves. Specifically, this is the principle of self-leading learning in which learners themselves become the subjects of learning based on their experience and personal judgement rules. In addition, while showing the group dynamics which help instructors and learners enhance learning effects through interactions, maieutics facilitates changes in attitude and behavior. Lastly, the Socratic method helps learners perceive their weaknesses through ceaseless self-reflection and encourages them to continue to learn more autonomously. In this sense, it seems that the Socratic method can be used as a learner-centered teaching method that takes into consideration the subjective characteristics of learner.
