진천 삼룡리·산수리 유적 출토 토기의 생산기술에 관한 고찰

국문 초록

이 글의 목적은 진천 삼룡리·산수리 가마유적 출토 토기에 대한 자연과학적 분석을 중심으로 이 지역 한성 백제 성립기의 토기 생산기술의 변동양상을 검토하는데 있다. 본고에서는 삼룡리·산수리 유적 토기를 토기암석학(Ceramic Petrography)과 주사전자현미경(Scanning Electron Microscopy)을 이용해 분석하여 원료흙의 채취에서부터 소성에 이르기까지 해당 토기의 생산공정을 세분해서 살펴보고 토기 생산기술의 시간적 변화양상을 검토하였다. 그 결과 원삼국시대 토기와 백제토기 생산에 있어서 원료흙과 첨가제의 선택과 활용, 몸체성형기법, 토기 소성에 있어서 유사성이 확인되어 이를 바탕으로 이 유적에서 원삼국시대 토기에서 백제토기로의 생산기술의 점진적인 이행을 강조하였다. 진천 삼룡리·산수리 유적에서 관찰되는 이러한 백제토기 성립양상은 백제국가의 영역확대 과정에 대해 새로운 시사점을 제공해 준다.

영문 초록

The Samyongri·Sansuri kiln site, located in the Jincheon region of mid-western Korea, has the potential to shed light on archaeological issues regarding production technology, production organization, and the relationship between the material culture and sociopolitical change. This paper aims to investigate those archaeological issues from the proto-Three Kingdoms to Hanseong Paekche period. Ceramic petrography and Scanning Electron Microscopy were used to reconstruct the pottery production processes, including raw material selection, clay manipulation, vessel forming and firing practices, which took place at Samyongri·Sansuri. Analysis suggests that there was a great continuity of production technology at the site of Samyongri·Sansuri. Also of significance is the presence of well organized craftspeople at this site which could be ascertained from the dominance of non-tempered pottery and the control of the firing atmosphere, both of which reflect the application of sophisticated production skills.
