초등학교 수행평가 활동 전반의 타당성에 관한 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 현재 초등학교에서 이루어지고 있는 수행평가 활동의 전반에 대한 타당성 정도를 살펴봄으로써 바람직한 개선 방향을 모색하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 연구자들은 수행평가 활동 전반을 '준비 및 설계', '수행과제의 개발 및 선정', '평가의 실시 및 자료수집', '결과의 해석 및 활용', '교욱전반에 대한 영향력 검증'등 다섯 단계로 구분하고, 각각에 적합한 타당화준거 및 논리를 적용하여 20명의 초등학교 교사들과의 면담, 수행평가 계획서, 수행평가 산출물, 성적표 등을 참조하여 타당성 정도를 분석하였다. 적용된 타당화 준거는 학교현장의 수행평가 계획 및 실행의 국가 수준 지침/규정과의 적합도, 내용 타당도, 내재적 타당도, 교수타당도, 시간과 노력의 적정성, 채점 공정성, 결과의 활용정도, 결과 타당도 등이다. 연구결과는 현재의 초등학교 수행평가가 이 연구에서 설정한 타당화 준거 및 논리 측면에서 볼 때 그 타당성 정도가 대체로 낮았음을 보여 주었다. 수행평가의 형식적 시행, 단편적 지식이나 이해를 주로 측정하는 수행평가 과제의 질적 문제, 교수학습 활동을 개선시키거나 고등사고 능력을 향상시키기 보다는 학습활동 시간의 축소, 교사와 학생 모두가 부담스러워하는 수행평가 시행 횟수, 현장의 평가 체제를 반영하지 못하는 형식적인 성적 산출 방법 등을 낮은 타당성의 증거로 제시하였다. 초등학교 수행평가 활동 전반의 타당도를 높일 수 있는 방법으로 수행평가 개념 재정립, 주지교과에서 지필평가 성적을 반영하도록 성적산출 방법의 전환, 수행평가의 본질적인 개념에 부합하는 수행과제 개발, 적정한 수행평가 시행 횟수 설정 등을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity of the performance assessment with a holistic approach for the elementary school in Korea. The performance assessment is divided into five stages: (1) planning the performance assessment, (2) developing and selecting performance tasks, (3) implementing and operating the assessment, (4) interpreting and utilizing the results of the performance assessment, (5) exploring the effect of the performance assessment on education. The eight criteria used for the validation are as follows: The accordance to national guidances and regulations, content validity, internal validity, instructional validity, the appropriateness of the amount of time and effort for conducting the performance assessment, the reliability of scoring, the degree of the utilizing the results, and the consequence validity. The results of this study indicated that the overall validity of the performance assessment conducted in the elementary school of Korea was considerably low. The planning and administration of the performance assessment are very superficial, and performance tasks are also limited to measuring basic knowledge and skills of students. Furthermore the administration is too frequent to think about the quality of performance tasks, and it makes elementary school teachers overloaded. Based on the results of the study, the researchers propose the following suggestions for improving the performance assessment conducted in the elementary school of Korea; (1) redefining the right meaning of the performance assessment, (2) reforming the grading system of the elementary school, (3) developing high quality performance tasks, and (4) conducting the performance assessment with reasonable frequency.
