산사음악회의 포교효과성 연구

국문 초록

사회의 변화에 따라 포교에서도 다양한 문화적 수단을 활용하는 ‘문화포교’가 핵심이 되고 있다. 산사음악회는 음악을 포교의 수단으로 활용한 문화포교로서 1990년대부터 본격적으로 시행되고 있으며 지역 축제 등과 연계되어 매우 활발하게 운영되고 있다. 그럼에도 아직까지 산사음악회에 대한 연구는 미진한 형편이다. 이에 포교론적 관점에서 산사음악회를 고찰하였다. 우선 산사음악회의 연원, 성격, 실태, 산사음악회 참여자들의 실태 및 인식 등을 종합적으로 검토하였다. 둘째, 포교효과 분석을 위해 문화포교와 참여자들을 유형화하였다. 문화포교는 참여자들의 참여수준과 타 프로그램과 연계유무, 참여자들은 종교와 문화적 취향에 따라 각각 네 개의 유형으로 구분하였다. 이를 활용하여 산사음악회의 포교효과를 비교ㆍ분석하였다. 이와 함께 산사음악회의 한계점과 이를 극복하기 위한 방안들을 모색하였다. 산사음악회는 기존 불교신자들뿐 아니라 산사음악회에서 제공하는 음악 장르를 선호하는 일반인에게도 높은 포교효과를 얻고 있다. 일반인들은 음악회를 통해 불교문화를 이해하고 불교에 대한 긍정적인 이미지를 얻고 있으며, 기존 신자들은 불자로의 정체성을 강화하고 불교에 대한 자부심을 느끼고 있다.

영문 초록

These days, interest in the quality of life and in cultural events have grown. For the purpose of the propagation of Buddhism, more and more temples use cultural measures. A Cultural mission could be defined as missionary works using cultural measures. In cultural measures. In cultural missions, music concerts at temples have played important roles since 1990. But, music concerts at temples have been rarely studied. This study describes concepts and types of cultural missions, the origin of temple concerts, and characteristics of the audiences. And then, their attitudes toward the temple concerts are examined. To do this study, cultural missions are categorized by the participation levels of the audiences and whether they are linked to other missionary programs. Also, audiences are classified by their religions and cultural preferences. Through comparisons of this typology, the missionary effects are analyzed. Based on the results, this study provides several suggestions relating to temple concerts. Temple concerts have positive influences not only for existing Buddhists but also for non-Buddhists, especially those who are interested in Korean traditional music and classic music. For existing Buddhists, temple concerts provide a strengthened Buddhist identity and religious pride. For non-Buddhists, temple concerts provide better understanding of the Buddhist culture and help the non-Buddhists to have a positive attitude toward Buddhism.
