대학생의 독서 동기와 태도에 관한 실증적 연구

국문 초록

  본 연구의 목적은 대학생의 독서 동기와 태도가 향후 독서 가능성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석하는데 있다. 본 연구의 조사는 2007년 5월 13일에서 16일까지 4일간 전북지역의 대학생들을 중심으로 진행되었다. 본 논문의 연구 문제는 첫째, 대학생의 독서 동기 어떠한가 둘째, 대학생의 독서 태도 및 이용에서의 성별 특성은 어떠한가, 셋째, 대학생의 독서 동기와 태도간의 관계는 어떠한가, 넷째 대학생의 향후 독서 가능성의 직접적인 결정 요인은 무엇인가 이다. 연구 결과를 보면, 첫째 요인분석 결과 대학생의 독서 동기는 정서적 욕구, 실용적 욕구로 구성되었다. 둘째, 여자 대학생들이 남자 대학생들보다 높은 정서적 동기를 보유하였으며, 독서 만족도 및 친근감에서도 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 여자 대학생일수록 국내외 소설을 더 읽는 반면 남자 대학생은 판타지 소설을 더 선호하였다. 또 여학생이 남학생보다 국내외 소설 및 교양도서에 관한 만족도가 높았다. 실용적 욕구를 보유한 대학생들은 실용취미도서, 교양도서 등을 더 자주 읽는 경향을 보였다. 넷째, 독서 만족도, 독서에 대한 친근감, 실용적 동기 등이 대학생의 향후 독서가능성에 직접적인 영향을 미친 변수로 밝혀졌다. 즉 독서 만족도와 친근감이 높고, 실용적 동기가 강한 대학생들일수록, 향후 높은 독서 가능성을 보유하였다. 반면 정서적 동기, 독서 시간 등은 향후 독서가능성에 영향을 전혀 미치지 못한 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

  The purpose of this paper was to examine how much college students" reading motivations and attitudes influence their future reading. Data were collected from students living in Jeonbuk Province during 4 days(from May 13 2007 through May 16). Research issues addressed in the study were；first, what are the college students" reading motivations?；second, what are the gender characteristics in terms of reading motivations and attitudes?；third, what kinds of relationships are there in reading motivations and attitudes?；fourth, what elements determine college students" future reading? Analyses showed that first, college students" reading motivations and attitudes are composed emotional motivation and utilitarian motivation. Second, female students showed higher emotional motivations than male counterparts, and they also had a relatively higher level of reading satisfaction and familiarity. Third, female students read more of domestic/foreign novels, while male counterparts preferred fantasia materials to others. In addition, they showed a higher level of reading satisfactions in domestic/foreign novels and educational materials, compared to male counterparts. College students(both male and female) having utilitarian motivations tended to read more of hobby related utility books and educational materials. Finally, reading satisfaction, familiarity, and utilitarian motivation had direct influences on students" future reading possibility. In other words, those having more reading satisfaction, familiarity, and utilitarian motivation were likely to read more books in the future. On the other hand, emotional motivation and reading time did not influence students" future reading possibility
