형식주의적 논문쓰기의 문제점과 올바른 인용 방식에 관한 연구

국문 초록

  2007년 6월 28일부터 발효된 전부개정 저작권법은 보호받는 저작물에 대해 기존의 “문학ㆍ학술 또는 예술의 범위에 속하는 창작물”이라는 정의 대신 “인간의 사상 또는 감정을 표현한 창작물”이라는 새로운 정의를 채택하고 있다. 이는 문학ㆍ학술ㆍ예술의 범주에 속하지 않더라도 인간의 사상 또는 감정을 표현한 창작물이라면 모두 저작물로 인정함으로써 그 범위를 크게 넓혔다는 점에서 주목된다.
  한편, 표절을 둘러싼 시비가 끊이지 않는 우리 학계의 현실을 돌아볼 때, 오늘날 논문의 완결성에 입각한 실용성보다는 부수적인 형식의 엄정성만을 강조하는 논문심사 관행, 그리고 각종 학회의 ‘논문작성규정’은 보다 적극적인 책임에 입각한 글쓰기의 정착과 올바른 인용 조건을 충족시키기 위해서라도 개선되어야 할 것으로 판단된다. 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 이 논문에서는 형식주의적 논문쓰기에 치우치고 있는 우리 학술 저작물의 구체적인 문제점이 무엇인지 살펴보고, 대안으로서 올바른 인용의 조건과 방식은 무엇인지 제시하고자 한다.
  이상과 같은 논의를 통해 다른 연구자들의 성과물을 올바르게 인용하는 것이야말로 “논문쓰기를 통한 학자들 간의 멋진 소통”을 추구하는 것이며, 나아가 자신과 견해가 같은지 그렇지 않은지에 관계없이 다양한 학문적 관점과 겨뤄볼 수 있는 최선의 방법이라는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 아울러 다른 연구자들의 성과물을 올바르게 인용할 줄 아는 연구자는 혹독하면서도 공정한 절차를 통과함으로써 자신의 연구 방법이 갖는 우수성을 증명하게 된다는 점도 다시 한 번 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

  The revised copyright act that has come into effect since June 28, 2007, makes a new definition of writings covered by the law. The past law was just applied to “creative writings in the categories of literature, academics or art”, but “creative writings that describe human thoughts or sentiment” are covered by the current one. The revised act is note- worthy in that the sphere of creative writings is extended on a large scale by allowing every writing representing human thoughts or feelings to be covered by the law, whether it belongs to the categories of literature, academics or art or not.
  Given the reality of academic communities ceaselessly plagued by disputes on plagiarism, today"s paper examination practices that stress a strict form, which is just incidental, rather than perfectness and practicality should be redressed, and the paper writing rules of every society and academy should be modified to ensure the right quotation and create the kind of climate that one assumes all the responsibility for his or her own writing. The purpose of this study was to examine the problems with academic writings and to suggest the conditions and methods of correct quotation as an alternative, as treatises and papers were written just for form"s sake in many cases.
  The efforts by this study to discuss paper writing suggested that the right quotation of the achievements of other researchers could be called pursuit of splendid communication among researchers, and that it is the best way to compare one"s own view with various academic perspectives of others, whether their standpoint is the same or not. Besides, it"s ascertained that researchers who quote the achievements of others in the right manner are able to prove the excellency of their research methods by going through the strict and fair examination procedure.
